From the Decipher CEO
« on: December 13, 2009, 01:19:56 PM »
Decipher certainly has a history of being supportive of the players with such efforts, but it does require approval and a license from us.

...I'll consider LOTR. However, it will be at least till the second quarter of next year before I can formally do so.

Basically, Decipher is usually open to a committee for our former games if nothing is done to compromise our rights, but serve the players. That means everything provided under such an agreement has to be provided to the players for free by volunteers and not to raise money.

Warren

I have taken out some other non essential parts to this message. It mentions infringing intellectual property, and Decipher will seek to prevent this. We will have to wait for approval from Decipher to become a genuine Player's Committee. For now, we are merely a bunch of players that are working together to keep the game going. We should continue to gather all the players we can, and make all the preparations for an eventual OFFICIAL PC

And once again, their state it very clearly: "has to be provided to the players for free by volunteers and not to raise money."

Starting with our forum, database, GCCG, magazine, DC/VCards perspective, and so on, nothing of this is intended to raise money. So, with the proper time and patiance, we will be able to do all our ideas come true... :D

So, what we need to do is to prepare our case for Warren so we can get the approval from Decipher.

Well done TheJord. Now we really need to get ready and prepare for Decipher. Since Sete is already doing the magazine, TheJord has already contacted Big D, and other members (including myself) has bee bringing members onboard, we couldstart off with a proper marketing team. How's that sound? :)

P.S: Can't wait for this to get underway :)

I have a question ....

Assuming Decipher give permission for LOTR to continue under the proposed PC say in April 2010 ... would you envision that:

1) Work will start when we get approval on the bits and pieces - tournaments, v-cards, not-for-profit website with downloadable material (unless we can work out how to get TLHH and Kralik involved), etc (whatever may be needed)
OR
2) A large part of the bits-and-pieces are already in place before the pitch is put to Decipher. For example, as soon as approval is given we hit the community with resources and launch the PC with a bang.

If the answer is 2, then we need to get to it and start formalising the structure and early goals of the PC. We need people to be assign specific roles, and most important of all we need to know who out leader is .... (is it TheJord? - we need to know).

I am going for 2. We already have a magazine in place, and Ranofer is supposed to be doing a website.

It should be 2 - we've been talking for years, now is the time to actually do something.

Great job on actually making contact! Encouraging! They'd probably allow us to use the templates for V-Cards at some point, if they give us official PC status. I'm very surprised they care. VERY surprised.

If we need to make this pitch in person and meet with Decipher reps in Virginia (D's HQ) sometime next year I can certainly be tapped to do so, assuming all the ducks are in a row. Norfolk is a bit of a drive but I'd be willing to donate my time and gas money to help the cause. Obviously there is a TON of work that has to be done first, but I thought I'd throw out the offer.

ok i think that they would look more favorably upon us if we offer to advertise their products, namely Fight Klub, for free in our magazine, at tournaments and on our websites, if they feel they can get something out of this they might be more likely to grant us a licence and such.

Guys I have a decent relationship with Warren through both the SW PC as well through my website selling their items.  I would be glad to help with this and talking to Warren and Cindy about it.  An action plan does need to be in place though.

Getting people to sit down or DO something. That's not going to be easy. I'll be willing to give 102% and do my best though.

I have created a draft action plan (I would not be offended if another one came out). I am willing to modify and edit the current one based on all advice given. Some elements of the action plan are already (informally) in place. I will bump the action plan in hope of getting some new feedback.

I would encourage every member of this site to get involved with the PC. Part of the vision of the PC is to formalise alot of what is already happening on this website and to provide a set of easy to find resources that aid in playing the game on a separate website. We are not interested in getting rid of TLHH but working with them. We are not interested in designing a set of dream cards that will break the game.

Please check out the PC draft action plan and provide feedback :)

I've said it before and will say it again: the best thing we can do is foster strong, local player communities, with regular events. Bring back old players, bring in new players--don't just play with your buddies.
