Borogorn
« on: September 24, 2013, 11:22:06 PM »
As requested in a different thread, may I present BOROGORN!

RB and RING
Boromir, bearer of council
answer to all riddles

FREEPS
Aragorn, Heir of Elindil
Anduril, King's blade x2
Scrolls of Isildur x2
Sapling of the white tree x4
Shards of Narsil x2
Citadel of the white tower x4
Boromir's shield x2
I will go x2
Gondor bowman x4
Boromir's gauntlets x3
Athelas x2
Blade of Gondor x3
Hearts raised x4

The idea is to load gorn with the gauntlets, his sword and bow then cancel skirmishes like mad. Use the bowman to keep swarms at bay, and hearts raised to keep those threats down. Gorn's text, the condition, and his sword make him Def +3 at all times. I am thinking of adding some valiant man of the west instead. It has not been paired with a shadow yet, but this is definitely a freeps that will need a strong shadow to support it. You won't be running much with these guys.

C&C welcome!

Aragorn, Heir of Elendil
Scroll of Isildur
The Shards of Narsil
Citadel of Minas Tirith
Shield of Boromir
Gondor Bowmen

I would add some events. There is always the chance that you skirmish can't be canceled (archery exhausts gorn, ect). Swordarm of the white tower would be a good fit.

On Gemp, I won around half my games using:

1x Aragorn, Heir of Elendil
2x Athelas
3x Blade of Gondor
3x Boromir's Gauntlets
2x Coat of Mail
2x Shield of Boromir
2x Anduril, King's Blade
4x Sapling of the White Tree
1x Scroll of Isildur
4x Citadel of Minas Tirith
4x Hearts Raised
2x I Will Go

I actually used a pretty weak Shadow, but it draws tons and tons of cards.  When I lost, it was because I still couldn't get to my Fellowship cards quickly enough.  That Aragorn combo is really fun/strong once it's going though...

Yeah, i totally stole your idea. Thanks by the way. Did you find i will go to be less effective than say something like valiant man of the west?

So, valiant man of the west is a no go for this deck. It is a maneuver action which cost 1 twilight. How much twilight does it take to ignore boromir's gauntlets? 1.

So, Before committing to I will go (3 twilight is a lot for a choke deck), I am going to try elendil's valor, cost 0 maneuver which will get me another defender bonus.

Other the other hand, this deck performs horridly against archery (I found that out the hard way ;)). But of the 2 games I played with it I won the second by sprinting to the end. Something I thought would be impossible with this freeps. not only did it carry me to the end, it was against a moria swarm no less! I really missed aragorn's dmg +1 from his various other weapons, but everything else came up aces.

And, as a final note, I coupled this freeps to a movie block moria swarm.

I haven't tried any events.  I Will Go was good to me, though I never played against a dedicated threat deck, just Captured by the Ring.

Isengard Orcs aren't much fun either, but yeah, Moria is (oddly) pretty much a walk in the park when you get your cards.  I paired mine with Moria/Dunland swarm.

I've been playing this one a lot lately.  Since I was hit with Grima, Wormtongue nearly every game, I started experimenting with Gimli, BoG as ringbearer (with Preparations and Slaked Thirsts) and it's been working better.  It seemed like every time the Fellowship lost (other than to Wormtongue), it was because of burdens.  With a Ring of Fury and Axe of Erebor, and keeping the Scroll of Isildur and 4x Sapling of the White Tree, Gimli can handle some burdens, if needed.  It's also fun to have out 2x Hearts Raised, then skirmish with Gimli, add 2 threats (after the Aragorn skirmish), then remove both again.

Cool. I never would have thought to use Gimli. I've played  a few games with my version and came out victorious both times. I never would have guessed such a deck to work.

Played one of the variations of this against Ket today, and he was suggesting adding Gandy for condition removal.  Plus, there's this:

Any new thoughts?

a catapult would also be a good option for condition removal. athelas is good (and a standard goto for me), but it is limited in condition removal. The only other thing i'm worried about is turbo corruption but there isn't much to combat turbo corruption decks.
