Holiday Exchange
« on: November 03, 2011, 06:36:13 PM »
UPDATE! Air Power is now in charge of the Holiday Exchange program, so if you had previously PM'd me about it, please PM him with your address so that he can get everything squared away. Thanks again Air Power!!

Hey all,

This isn't an original idea by any means, but I don't remember seeing it done here, so I wanted to propose it and see if there was any interest.

I'd like to organize a holiday exchange/secret santa type of deal. Everyone who is interested PM's me with their mailing address, and I randomly assign them someone else from the list of interested parties who they will send a surprise package of cards (no more than $5-10 worth, please). People won't necessarily be receiving cards from the person they're mailing to, either, so we'll have a little more interaction that way.

I was thinking of having sign-ups through November 30th, and then I can assign partners on December 1st so that everyone has enough time to prep their cards and get them mailed in time for the holidays.

With so many of our members being from Europe, (and I may be giving myself a headache when it comes time for pairing, but I digress) we may want to consider allowing individuals to opt-out of international partners or just having two different exchanges: one for North America and one for Europe.

So, what do you all think? Anyone interested? Any questions or anything I left out?  ?  ?

I'd like to see US and Europe separate if we have enough people for each, but I wouldn't mind intercontinental if we need that to have enough participation.  Mainly, mailing in the US is cheaper than mailing to Europe, and I assume the same is true for mailing in Europe compared to mailing to the US.

Either way, I'm in for either a US group or the international group, depending on what you decide.

Haha, sign me up! I love surprise envelopes. I am located in Europe, but I wouldn't mind sending the cards to the very ends of the world!

Just for some background on how this is or can be done, and because I think Brad Eier over at the swccg boards explains it pretty well, here is a link to last year's thread from over there:

http://starwarsccg.org/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=55&jfile=viewtopic.php&f=2&t=38366

The last few pages have people posting what they received from their Secret Santa, if you'd like to get some ideas for your gifts.

Hey guys, I don't want to cancel this outright, but I don't have time to organize it anymore, so if somebody wants to step up, it's yours for the taking, just PM me.

All, I'm organizing this now.

I hope you had a great thanksgiving (for our European friends: this is the holiday where we in the US thank God for turkey and "American" football).

Anyway, if you'd like to participate, please PM me with your address.  Also let me know if you only want to mail to someone on the same continent or if you're open to mailing to another continent.

Please do this by Nov 30.  Do this even if you already sent your info to HawkeyeSPF; we don't want to make him forward a bunch of info to me and risk someone getting overlooked.

Last call: if you PM me your info by tomorrow night (30 Nov), you're in the exchange.  If not, you're out

(to all who expected a "real" update to this thread, sorry for spamming you)

Should we have a Holiday Exchange Report thread where we can report at how awesome our gifts are?

Also, if I can make a request; When sending out your cards I think it would be awesome to include a card that you have signed. Sign or personalize one of your favorite cards (the one you throw in every deck), doesn't matter how common or rare and include it in the package.

I have a selection of player signed cards that I always try to include in decks and think it is a fun way to build the community a bit.
