Gondor elves massive wouding
« on: May 21, 2009, 09:17:38 PM »
the idea here was 7 archer companions... its hit or miss, but it can really kill.

Isildur, BoH
ATAR

Starting:
Faramir, Captain of Gondor
Denethor, LoMT

Draw deck (35 cards):
Legolas, Greenleaf x2
Garrison of Gondor x2
Aragorn's Bow
Faramir's bow x2
Elrond, EL x2
Aragorn, ET x2
Arwen, QoEaM x2
Gil-galad, EHK
Elven Bow x3
Gondor Bowmen x4
Hardy Garrison
Defend it and hope x4
Aiglos
Narsil, BotF
Double shot x4
The Splendor of Their Banners

So, basically, doesn't matter who goes first, don't bid any burdens. Faramir+Denethor have a very good chance of flying solo to site 3, but take your time. At site 3, use denethor to pull aragorn, heal denethor, pull GoG, and gorn's bow. Add the threats and draw the cards, try and get legolas. You might think 6 companions is bad, you are right. Kill denethor at site 4, shouldn't be hard since he's exhausted. If your opponent isn't playing croud control, go ahead and drop your other elves. If you get all your companions out and properly armed (happens quite a bit with the cycling this deck has) you will have 7 archers every site  that plus the godor bowmen, splendor of their banners, and events, you can kill just about anything. I've dished out 11 wounds 2 sites in a row with this deck. In the fellowship phase, use gorns and elronds text to move the wounds around as needed. The last game I played this deck with, there was only one skirmish before site 9, and that was to get rid of denethor. Since its kind of big, you need a high cycling shadow, the obvious choice being... Moria! pretty basic deck, but here it is:

Goblin Armory x4
Goblin Backstabber x4
Goblin Runner x4
Goblin Scavengers x4
Goblin Scimitar x4
Goblin swarms x2
Goblin Warrior x2
Host of Moria, LotU x2
Host of Thousands x4
Moria Scout x4
They are coming

Since your getting Gorn and Garrison why not drop one of each for maybe a Scroll of Isildur or some condition discardal.

Good point... there isn't a whole lot of good condition discardal that I could see, and only on other [Gondor] artifact (narsil) and I need some healing, so I'm thinking drop 1x double shot and one of each of the a fore mentioned companions and add 3x Citadel of Minas Tirith?

This should be fun, until you faced enduring minions or any card that prevents minions from taking wound in the archery phase

yes, well. Even most enduring minions (except possibly shelob+gollum... 12 vitailty XD ) won't survive to skirmish, and you have lots of high strength high vitality companions, so you should be able to survive and hope the shadow can do its job.

If you're worried about fighting, you could always throw in a lorien swordsman.  Of course then you would want to make sure he had a weapon... Once you made that change, the essence of your deck may die......

You have a few tales... maybe you could use Bilbo to discard important conditions. Otherwise, Company of Archer would be the best option. Or you can switch to a knight Aragorn and add Catapult.

Arwen, QoEaM does a better job than lorien swordsman. Bilbo is an interesting option though...

For a woudning deck maybe WoBaS and Shadowplay for instant wounding. Enquea is to be feared in movieblock and with your exerting he has an easy picking...

The card you really need in most of your wounding decks is : Eowyn LOI.

I agree. Let's just...pretend that someone kills Arwen or Legolas or Elrond or a combination of the three. Well, then you can't play Gil-Galad. I recommend running Boromir, Bearer of Council as the Ring-Bearer with Answer to All Riddles (you only have Garrison of Gondor as a knight...). Then...
Remove (10):
1x Gil-Galad, Elven High King
2x Elrond, Elven Lord
1x Elven Bow
1x Garrison of Gondor
1x Aragorn, Elessar Telcontar
1x Faramir's Bow
1x Defend It And Hope
1x Aiglos
1x Narsil, Blade of the Faithful

Add (6):
1x Eowyn, Lady of Ithilien
1x Blade of Gondor
1x Gandalf's Cart
1x Tale of Gil-Galad
1x Catapult

That drops you down to a 30 card Fellowship. Gandalf's cart is a great card for keeping possessions you don't yet need (like the Elven Bows or Aragorn's Bow before site 3). You said it yourself that you just pull Garrison of Gondor and Aragorn out at site 3, so you don't need multiple copies of those. If you happen to get one in a really early hand, just grab a bow!

Tale of Gil-Galad and Aiglos kind of have the same effect when played on Legolas, Greenleaf. I like the strength +2 bonus in a jam coupled with a lower twilight cost, but if you want to just play Aiglos on Legolas, that's fine too. The Catapult is one of my favorite maneuver-type cards out there. It's handy in a pinch against conditions, possessions, and minions. And, it couples with Hardy Garrison to wound someone if you happen to lose the initiative.

I would watch out for Uruk-Hai...particularly Saruman's Power. Having four Gondor Bowmen discarded then having to fight an Uruk Rear Guard can kind of be a kick in the teeth...

As for your bad guys, cut the four Host of Thousands and cut the two Goblin Warriors. Then add one Relics of Moria and you are good to go.

Good luck, and nice deck.

Edit: I don't know if you ever looked at this, but Catapult needs two Knights spotted to play...maybe Aragorn, Captain of Gondor solves this problem?

Grab Narsil, BotF with Denethor, then the other cards you need. Transfer Narsil to Boromir (or the ring-bearer) to kill off Denethor. Viola!
