Overwhelmed
« on: April 11, 2009, 07:21:19 AM »
ok so what would happen if say there were 6 burdens and um a Dasron, Merchant from Dorwinion was skirmishing say an Orc Tormentor what would happen if the freeps player played two sotsf and the shadow player played an abiding evil, wouldn't dasron be overwhelmed since shadow wins ties and 0 x 2 = 0?

LOL!  Well well, very nice scenario.  I'd probably just rule that its a shadow win, but not an overwhelm.

In theory they would overwhelm each other. But it was decided, the shadow player wins the skirmish (no overwhelm).

I have a similar question...

What if I have a 2 6-strength minions skirmishing a 3-strength Galadriel Ringbearer, and the FP player plays forearmed and has an Ent Horde on top of their draw deck? I know forearmed only affects one minion, but does that minion's strength stop at 0 or continue into the negatives?

The 0-0 case is covered by the "overwhelm" entry:

Quote
A side with a total strength greater than zero will overwhelm a side whose total strength is zero. If the strength of both sides is zero, the Shadow side wins the skirmish (but does not overwhelm).

There's also a lengthy section on modifiers, but basically:

Quote
Each time a value is used, all applicable modifiers to that value are reapplied. If the result at that point is then less than zero, that result is changed to zero. (Numbers can go below zero until the final check is made.)
I'd argue that the final check isn't made until the totals are compared. So it'd be 6 - 15 + 6 = -3, changed to 0. Both minions are overwhelmed.

I often played against an elven deck...

Maneuver: Nenya: ...place to cards from hand on the top of your draw deck... --> Sauron

Skirmish:
Legolas uses forearmed - one Minion is strengh -18 --> overwhelmed
Glorfindel uses his skirmish special ability - exert; strength -18 --> Witch-king with pale-blade overwhelmed
Elrond uses Vilya - strength -18 --> minion was overwhelmed

--> that is really no fun!

--> imagine playing take up the bow --> each minon always gets discarded...

Mithrandir I am known to the Elves, Tharkun to the dwarves; Olorin was the name in my youth in the West which is forgotten, in the South Incanus, in the North Gandalf; into the East I will not go."

I would say no way! Forarmed can reduce just one minion's strength. Even if it get below zero, the strength of the other minion is not concered about this.

Actually I think that's more reasonable. Instead of "Each time the total of one side is used, all modifiers to that total are reapplied," it'd be "Each time a minion's strength is used, all modifiers to that strength are reapplied." In which case it'd be (6 - 15 --> 0) + 6 = 6, Galadriel is overwhelmed. That sound right?
