Favourite deck theme?
« on: February 20, 2010, 06:41:40 PM »
So, I'm a fan of themes. Especially in games with a little background story. I just want to know which are your favourite themes in decks, it doesn't have to be only for one side of the deck, it can be both Shadow and FP as a whole!

My favourite has definately got to be Knights/Besiegers. It's such a beautiful deck, especially with some Gandalf support for Gondor (Dáin, your "Gandalf's knights" is, to me, one of the greatest decks I've seen in these boards, though I would cut Grimbeorn). I really love this deck because it's very realistic when playing it. I mean, you can watch the whole Siege of Gondor scene of ROTK and playing the deck feels so much in sync with the scene. Pretty cool stuff.

Anyway, what are your favourite themes?

Gandalf terraforming for a balrog kill. No real good side, the gandalf side basically sets up the balrog to kill the opponent's fellowship.

Is that deck effective in any way? i don't mean competitive, but is it useful or powerful apart from being a great theme?

Well, Thorongil could exhaust a high-vitality minion, which could be assigned to Eowyn,LoI who could exert to cause some more wounds, making Arwen,QoEaM powerful. Faramir doesn't seem terribly helpful, but he's tougher than Frodo or Galadriel, and not really worse than Boromir or Isilduir.

I love Sam, Frodo and Smeagol together to destroy the ring, and it fits great in a gollum deck as well...

Ugh, I actually hate that theme. Maybe it's because I hate Sméagol/Gollum. I try to keep him away from my decks as much as I can...

I would have to say my favorite deck theme is the Hobbit Party deck that I began way back in the Fellowship block, and have played it off an on throughout the years.  It is made up of lots of hobbit companion and allies with Moria Orcs usually as the shadow (we like to play Open alot in our group).

The deck is actually huge (about 120+ cards fellow and shadow total), but it is just alot of fun to play that I have to pull it out every once in awhile and play it when a few of us are able to get together.
