No mirrir of Galadriel? I got in just after that one got burned, they made me believe that almost everyone played that...

The thing I find most interesting about looking at these decks is how they tend to have 1 or 2 copies of several events instead of a streamlined 3 or 4 copies of just a couple events. It seems like through the evolution of the game we have tried to make decks better by packing more copies of fewer cards, but the tournament winners from all three sets posted had more hodgepodge decks.

I can't imagine a pipeweed deck with just 5 weeds in it.

The Mirror of Galadriel had already received the errata that made it unplayable; not a single person played it at worlds that year (but it was huge before the errata).

The runner up deck is not a full blown pipeweed deck - the pipeweed is just to help cycle and provide a mini-sanctuary at any site.

If you are interested in comments about the decks from their creators, here are the original postings from decktech:

My FotR deck looks like the second one. 5 pipeweeds work just fine. They are there for healing purpose and you try to make it to the sanctuaries without using them all. I try to walk from 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-6, 6-8 and then make the final move. Depending on my starting hand I will go from 1-3, and drop a single Saruman just when I have quite some pool. Excellent stopping power! ;)

I know it sounds cheesy, but I actually helped design the first deck. I collected LotR with a friend, I played tanked-up Fellowship with Nazgûl, and he played that deck. Conceived from scratch. Of course, our version seems a little different now, since we adapted to errata and naturally evolved it to our metagame when people started stacking their decks to beat us and us alone, not even caring about what everyone else was playing. Good times, good times!
