GenCon events - who would be there?
« on: February 12, 2009, 11:26:30 AM »
GenCon Indianapolis is August 13-16 this year.

Badge Prices are as follows:
4-Day Badge: Pre-Registration (February 15 – June 27) $68; Onsite $78
1-Day Badge (Thurs-Sat): Pre-Registration (February 15 – June 27) $38; Onsite $48
1-Day Badge (Sun): Pre-Registration (February 15 – June 27) n/a; Onsite $28
Family Fun Badge (Sun): Pre-Registration (February 15 – June 27) n/a; Onsite $28

Don't forget about hotel rooms also, and don't be afraid to go 4+ to a room guys, splitting costs is the way to go.

If I were to run events there, what events would absolutely get you to go to Indy for the convention?

Would you absolutely attend?

Really be there?

I'm just trying to get a head count to see if it would be worth it to hold the first ever TLHH LotR TCG Championship, so leave a note here if you absolutely without a doubt would attend this (1) no matter what events are held, (2) as long as there's at least 1 constructed and 1 draft tournament, or (3) only if a(n) _____ tournament is held.

Thanks.,

Steve

Hey, I was looking at The google map, and the best place to hold a USA LOTR tourney would be in Springfield, llliniois.

I disagree. Flights into Indianapolis are much more available and therefore cheaper, and the availability of sealed product is infinitely greater at the convention hall than anywhere in Springfield IL. Sure, you've got to pay for a badge, but with everything else that goes on at the convention, wouldn't it be worth it?

Those who've never been should consider going - it really is a great time.

The question is more along the lines of "what doesn't happen at GenCon?!" Seriously, aside from the main gaming hall and exhibitor hall (which is freaking huge), there are gaming events of all sort happening nearly around the clock for 4 days. Everything from LotR (if we held something ourselves) to L5R, from Anachronism to Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh, RPGs and LARPs. There are even events for non-gamer significant others that have been dragged along!

A couple of the traditional highlights of the show are the Costume Parade (and contests) and the (GIANT) CCG House of Cards. It's held at the Indianapolis Convention Center, which has its own restaurants, and is connected to one of the downtown hotels and parking garages.

Inside the Exhibitor Hall you'll find hundreds of booths set up selling everything from original art to dice and glass beads to CCGs and RPG books.

Usually the only thing that can keep a gamer away from something like this is either the cost or his wife (for whom the cost is a problem), so pack your bags and make up an excuse, let's go!!

That sounds really tempting, of course I need to take care of finances first. Hmm, maybe I can convince my brothers to come along with me. I dunno, there's so much going on that i'm not sure if I can or not. I'll try though. I can bring my cards along with me, but only for trading, I don't really battle much.  ??? ??? ??? ???
