Speculations
« on: March 02, 2013, 01:40:00 PM »
I've decided to start working on a new DC set which will be called Speculations.

The set will be similar to Reflections, with 52 cards. It is meant to be playable as part of Movie Block so cards will have signets instead of resistance.

The set will mainly contain characters that will be put in culture that they are not currently associated with, it will also contain some alternate Ring-bearers.

For instance, let's start with the Wraiths from Dunharrow, which are related to [Dunland].

[3] Cursed Man of Dunharrow [Dunland]
Minion • Wraith
Strength: 7
Vitality: 3
Site Number: 4
Enduring.
When you play this minion, the fellowship player may add a threat to discard him.
While this minions is stacked on an underground site, [Dunland] Wraiths cannot be discarded.
?R3

[2] Dead Man of the Mountains [Dunland]
Minion • Wraith
Strength: 6
Vitality: 3
Site Number: 4
Enduring.
When you play this minion, the fellowship player may add a threat to discard him.
Shadow: Take control of a site. The Free Peoples player may exhaust this minion to prevent that.
?R4

[1] Isildur's Curse [Dunland]
Condition
Vitality: +1
To play, add a threat.
Plays on a [Dunland] Man. Bearer is enduring and gains Wraith.
Skirmish: Exert bearer to play a [Dunland] minion from hand.
?R+5

[4]King of the Dead, Cursed Man [Dunland]
Minion • Wraith
Strength: 7
Vitality: 4
Site Number: 4
Enduring.
When you play this minion, the fellowship player may add 2 threats to discard him.
Shadow: Exert this minion to stack a [Dunland] minion from hand on a site you control.
?R+6

Regarding Dead Man of the Mountain:

The way it is currently phrased, the Free Peoples player can always prevent the site control. Is that the point? Str. 10 Vit 1 Minion for [2]?

Yes, that's the point. Perhaps we can make it better... I want it to be able to take control of a site. It would be similar to Dunlending Renegade when it comes to stats.

On Isildur's Curse, consider making the man played fierce until the regroup phase.  Other than that looks pretty good, like the flavor.

Is there a reason that you went for a different wording, then? Also, my concern is the other side of it - you either get a 2 cost, 10 Strength, 1 Vitality minion or you get a 2 cost, 6 Strength, 3 Vitality minion, and gain control of every site that can be controlled.

Would "When you play this minion, you may take control of a site unless the Free Peoples player exhausts him." work for your intent?
What about doing it the other way around - "Shadow: If there is a site on the adventure path with a site number lower than the site number of any player, exhaust this minion. The Free Peoples player may choose to have you take control of a site to prevent this."

I don't think the wording's quite right, but I forget how the wording to taking control of a site goes. Basically, I'm going for "If you could take control of a site, exhaust this minion" but with the rule book's phrasing.
It does not provide the same effect if the condition is removed - without it, you will always be able to exhaust the minion, while gaining as many sites as the Free Peoples player wants to give you (as opposed to gaining control of as many sites as the Free Peoples player wants to give you, and if it's less than all the sites possible, exhausting the minion).

Third option - "Shadow: Take control of a site. If you do, the Free Peoples player may exhaust this minion to liberate a site." A little wierder flavorly, but it should work nearly the same as the current text.

Also for Isildur's Curse, does the minion gain the Wraith race in addition or do you want it to replace its printed race. I prefer the wording "is a Wrath (in addition to / instead of) its printed race." Also, please add (limit 1 per bearer). I know it won't happen often, but the potential to add 4 threats and give any [Dunland] Man +4 Vitality, enduring and the ability to exert during the skirmish phase is a little too worrying for my tastes.

Lastly, was there ever a ruling on how characters that share a name but are on opposite sides interact?
