Revised Movie Sealed - booster pulls
« on: December 23, 2014, 10:04:00 AM »
Now that another sealed movie is winding down, I thought I'd take a pulse on booster pulls.

1. What booster pulls were really beneficial to you - and did they help guide you to a specific starter?
2. What booster pulls did you see others play that you were envious of?
3. What booster pulls do you think are most valuable for this sealed league?

I committed to the Elf/Dunland deck since I had yet to try it out. Unfortunately I didn't pull a whole lot in the first series to help - a Band of Wild Men, Dark Fury, Axe Strike and 3 Elf pumps. I did pull Aragorn HoE as a splash companion, but literally no Frodo support.

Later on I pulled No Refuge and Siege Troop to add a little more bite to the Dunland side, but certainly would have enjoyed some of the Dunland support like Living Off Rock, No Defense, Secret Folk, or even a couple weapons and/or pumps.

I did pull an Eowyn LoI, which made archery very helpful. I also had 2 Defiance to help against Nazgul, though they generally were the only shadow that was a royal pain for my elves.

I saw a number of pulls in other decks that I liked. A few that come to mind are Help in Doubt and Need, Shelob, Saruman KoI, and Uruk Vanguard. There were many others but those in particular were very helpful in sealed.

First series, I pulled a Help in Doubt and Need, so you bet your #$&*@! I picked the Gondor/Rohan starter. I also pulled an Orthanc Assassin, which fit in nicely with my Uruks. I also pulled a Shadowfax, Greatheart, but no Gandalf. Until...

Second series, I pulled Gandalf, Leader of Men. Booya!

Third series, I pulled Too Great and Terrible and Beyond All Darkness, great cards to splash with my Nazgul!

Fourth series, I got an Aragorn, Elessar Telcontar.

Other useful rares include (that is, if I had picked different starters): Secret Sentinels, They Stole It, Devilry of Orthanc.
All cards do what they say, no more, no less.

Pulls for me were very useless up until Serie 4.

I pulled Galadriel, LoL and Frodo, OBH

Ran an elf fellowship with Merry and Aragorn/Boromir

If Galadriel came out early it was really easy to double often with the choke, plus her healing of all of the site 6 allies provided.

I also pulled 2 bounders, so once Frodo and Merry had swords it was really hard to take them down.

Went 9-1 with one loss to just 1 arrow too many at site 9.

I feel like Movie sealed really shines in Serie 4 for variety, whereas other sealed leagues are really stagnant at serie 4.

Serie 1 gave me Advance Uruk Patrol, We Are the Fighting Uruk-hai, Uruk Assault Band and some Dunland cards, as well as Corrupt and Gwemegil. Chose Gondor/Rohan over Elves/Dunland as I think that deck very weak later on.

Series 2 gave me Twilight Witch-king, Eye of Barad-dur (yay... :/) and Promise Keeping. Took Shire/Rohan with the Nazgul. And my beloved Parapet. No Arrow Slits though :(

Series 3 I had Arwen LU, Galadriel KoN and Cantea TOTO as well as Houses of Lamentation #3. Took the Archer shadow for the Southron archers to build pressure alongside Black Breath/Blade Tip.

In series 4 I first wanted to go all FotR because of Freeps cards, but I thought my freeps strong enough so I decided to all Siege of Gondor. Reflections gave me a Nazgûl Ring which I didn't use. SoG pulls were disappointing to say the least, I only ended up including a GHT for condition removal after site 4. Pulls were Ships of Great Draught, Called Away, Gorgoroth Berserker, Life of the Eldar and Reckless We Rode. What I wanted to pull was: Eowyn's Shield, Theoden TAP and Otsea ToTO, Nertea ToTO. So much for that.

1. Faramir SoD (for obvious reasons, give him a Knight's Spear and he'll win most skirmishes you dont want to lose), SaWtC (spoils the fun for those nasty archery decks plus the extra strength matters), Sam (always good to have additional Ringbearer in Sealed, switched Son of Hamfast for Proper Poet 2nd serie), couple nazgul pumps (nazgul love their pumps). StMTN put me into uruks at the start, but I played it only 1 serie, as uruks dont pack enough punch in later series.

2. None. Envious or not, you won't have their pulls so no good being envious, better focus on your pulls and how to take the best out of them. That being said, I remember I played a guy with elves who started Glorfindel and next turn played Cirdan, which was rather impressive. He still lost.

3. The usual sealed suspects - good comps, good minions, skirmish events, ringbearer protection. In Revised Movie in particular it helps to have some FP defense against archery come serie 3 , though this time archery was almost absent, unlike the last time. It also helps to pull Enquea serie 1 as the only starter that has it at that point is the weakest, and you can catch some people by surprise 1st serie.

Well, maybe envious is not the right word...perhaps the question I am really asking is, what cards did you see that worked well with other decks?

Two more I just remembered:
I played against a Witch-king LotN and he was rather nasty. My opponent was able to take him back into hand with Attea, and later was able to pair him with Otsea to make him fierce when Frodo was already exhausted. Pretty nasty stuff.

I also saw a deck use the card Mind and Body to obliterate 3 exhausted companions after killing a minor companion. That was pretty devastating, especially for Frodo who was left to face 2 fierce Nazgul.
