Frodo and Aragorn
« on: January 29, 2009, 09:28:38 AM »
My friend has a deck that is just kicking my but, so I thought I'd come here for suggestions.  He's running Frodo and Aragorn (Age's End) alone.  He plays a couple Pukkel men early on and then reliably turns off any and all of my minions, hobbit conditions to help out (with Scouring of the Shire to keep those in play) and a few pumps to round it off.

On the Shadow side, he's using a Nazul deck with Nertea (Age's End) to ensure he doesn't fight your best guys and Sense of Obligation to ensure that he's adding burdens when someone else fights.

I really don't like calling NPE, but this one is killing me.  I've tried condition removal, but with 4 Pukkelmen he usually recovers and I don't really enjoy playing Nazgul.

Any suggestions?

If you run a solid solo Smeagol with sitepath control you should have no problems against his shadow, but there are many possibilities. Condition discard  or peeling burdens would be nice (Maybe Gandy deck with Traveled Leader for extra sotepath control). I really don´t like to say what you should do and what you shouldn´t cause that is the fun part, about you discovering what should work but anyway have you tried somo kind of swarm + Cavern Entrance? It usually kills the poor Frodo.

Anyway, i don´t have a clue what is this pukkel men you are talking about but i hope you find a way of geting more funny games. What i can say is that no deck is invencible.

Good luck in finding the best way to deal with. If you post a more detailed deck of your friend maybe people here can help you out.

By Pukkelmen, do you mean The Faithful Stone? If so, do you know that it has errata? You can see it at the link I've just posted.

For the best condition discard, I suggest [Isengard] or [Uruk] (assuming you don't want to play Nazgûl) so you can use things like Saruman's Power and Black Traitor or Devastation. Other ways round being screwed over in the maneuver phase are the Balrog, Demon of Might, the [Men] strategy from Rise of Saruman that plays and discards minions during the maneuver phase, Deceived Wizards who also have the capacity to make minions after the maneuver phase, [Dunland] which can play minions during the skirmish phase, [Men] archery so that you don't care whether your guys are assigned or not...

Thanks Thranduil.  I hadn't known about the errata and it will make a huge difference in the next game.  I thought the Faithful Stone (aka Pukkelmen) was too powerful.  :)

Also, which errata set did this occur in?  I'd like to see if there are any other changes that I'm not aware of.  :)

The very last. The only changes were made to Treachery & Deceit cards. You can check up the errata by looking through Kralik's awesome database!

Or snag the last CRD from the Archives -- quicker to see specific card changes. :)

Hi,
I am sure, Gollum and her Ladyship are strong enough to kill Frodo. Use some Led Astray to be sure to be able to play Shelob. Although Aragorn can not skirmish, he is still an Archer, right? Well, Shelob is Enduring  :uh-huh:. Take Led Astray, So polite (well, not efficent, maybe Captured by the ring, Little Snuffler ), Gollum and Shelob all back from discard pile (There are a lot of nice cards!)

Speak no more to me can help to get rid of Scouring of the shire, but you have to act immediately! Discard his hand or Sting and other nasty cards, now without protection.
