Like I told you guys a few weeks ago, we had organized a special day at my school for Liberia. We wanted to raise as much money as possible for a country that has suffered much in a civil war. May 23th was the chosen day and a lot of time went in to organizing the thing. Activities were to be planned, pupils and parents to be stimulated, donating companies to be allarmed and so on, and so on.
Well it payed off! It was hard to set an expectation, for we never had organized something this big. With 140 pupils we were happy if we could raise like €5000, the same as $8000. When the day had come, the weather was just awesome, the pupils were excited and we were well prepared. They started to do their activities and we went back to school to bring everything back in order for them to return and their parents as well. We had 3 grills, for hamburgers, we had a goal to do some penaltykicks, we had darts, all easy, fun games in which you could participate for 50 cent. I had set a bet that when a pupil would raise more than €675, my hair -fairly long back then- would be cut off. My collegues where very willing to donate to that cause as well, so a pupil raised 900 euros....an enormous amount off money. So for many that was the highlight off the day. I will see whether I can add some photos here.
Now, after 2 weeks most off the money is here. This morning we went to the local bank with all our cash money. It turned out to be more than €9000,-! With all funds being transfered, this will grow to an impresive 10000 euros! And the best thing is that our government will multiply it by 3.7, so €37.000.00 will go to Liberia! I'm grateful for this result, to which even members of our great TLHH community have contributed!
