Still worth it

This card game looks really good, and from the demo I've played, I've found the gameplay to be unique and refreshing, compared to countless other card games.

However, I'm doubting if it's still worth to buy and play this game, as it has been cancelled for a few years already.

Getting real cards is a challenge, but if you want to play without cards, download GCCG from here

Then you can play online for free, with any cards you want

Yes, getting the cards will be a challenge. The only thing I can easily get my hands on is "Mount Doom Lord of the Rings Trading card game (63 card sam starter deck)" from Amazon...

Often, a few cards pop-up on my local eBay, but for ridiculous prices.

I prefer to actually hold the cards in my hands, but I will check out the software you linked to.

Look in the Golden Hall board, it has a page of links to shops in USA and Europe.

This is a list of local playing groups that you can contact - or put your details in there and they might find you.

I live in Australia and bought almost all my cards from Ebay US stores. However, the price for shipping has gone through the roof though (they often want often 30 USD plus to ship a box when a year or two ago it was at most 15 USD - i suspect they want to make a hefty profit on postage unless the US postal system has had a 100% increase in international postage over the last two years)

Either way - it is possible to buy complete boxes posted for around $40-50USD and sometimes cheaper - complete sets for around $30USD sometimes (obviously for the cheaper sets).

I would recommend GCCG - theres a small learning curve - but i now can play LOTR anytime i want - before that it was only when i could get together with friends (which is pretty rare for me these days).

Some of us are trying to set up a PC (if may take awhile) but if successful one possibility is to introduce cards that can be legally printed from high-refs pdfs and played (similar to what Star Trek and Star Wars PCs do). This will make playing the game easier for newbies.

The game is definately worth playing IMO - there are so many playing formats and so many cards that make for an huge variation in play. You'd have to play alot of games to exhaust every playing possibility.

And there are many players, that have tons of cards that they are willing to share with new players. It is more than worth the effort, it rocks!

wholesalegaming.com is my source for boxes when I get them. Their selection is waning but they have most of the best stuff.

I've been looking around of this, and I've seen many, many things for sale on the internet. What piqued my interest however, were the "Deluxe" Starter editions. They come with black glass beads, I read. I assume they are similar to the coloured ones I have.

Are those deluxe editions worth it? Are they balanced against normal starter sets? (I'm planning to buy a deluxe one for me and a normal one for my friends)
