Cut Them Down Fellowship
« on: March 27, 2010, 03:35:21 PM »
So what does one do for a wounding deck with no elven bows, no Quick as May Be, no Terrible and Evil and no Aragorn's bow? Well, this was my experiment and it was significantly successful against Jackmaclintock for some reason. I'm posting this for the forum's entertainment--just another perspective on archery wounding.
(40)
Starting:
The One Ring, Such a Weight to Carry
Frodo, Hope of Free Peoples
Theoden, King of the Golden Hall
Gimli, Skilled Defender

Legolas, Nimble Warrior x1
Eowyn, LOI x1
Eomer, Sister-son of Theoden x2
Arwen, Queen of Elves and Men x1
Elite Rider x1
Merry, Swordthain x1
Simbelmyne x1
An Honorable Charge x3
Khazad Ai Menu x2
Rohirrim Bow x2
Rohirrim Javelin x1
Hand Axe x4
Dwarven Axe x1
Dwarven Bracers x1
Herugrim x2 (TTT version)
Sting, BotEL x1
Rider's Mount x1
Swift Steed x1
Snowmane x1
Brego x1
Deor x1
Leod, Westfold Herdsman x1
Aldor, Soldier of Edoras x2
Guma, Plains Farmer x1
Hlafwine, Village Farmhand x1
Dinendal, Silent Scout x1
Severed His Bonds x1
O Elbereth Gilthoniel! x1

Basically, bid and hope for first to bring out Legolas--he adds threats to add archery and Frodo removes them. Prett soon Aldor pops out and villagers. He deals wounds, and his villie buddies keep my Rohan comps happy. Gimli, tosses axes, wins his skirmishes to wound other minions and the Rohan guys use their bows and javelin. Merry helps bring back those weapons and any other items/mounts discarded by the shadow side. Deor helps me cycle well. Arwen and Eowyn both key off of wounded minions and made sense in this deck. I have more than 5 comps in case one or two die off. Dinendal gives me one more archery on my double move to site 6 and removes twilight.
It's a large semi-goofy deck, but it sure frustrated Jackmaclintock for a while ;) Obviously many problems exist...but I will soon have the resources to create some real caliber wounding decks.

My brother plays a unique [Rohan] archery deck. I'll post it when I get home but it is pretty successful and doesn't use Double Shot, Greenleaf, or [Dwarven] wounding at all (although I guess he could if he wanted).

But it uses Gondor Bowmen with Isildur, Bearer of Heirlooms, Aragorn, Elessar Telcontar with Aragorn's Bow, Eowyn, Lady of Ithilien and and Eomer, Third Marshal of Riddermark to mop up.

Merry, Swordthain recycles Rohirrim Javelin and there are a few other tricks.

For your deck, you could probably make a pretty nice Shadowplay and Unheeded deck but I wouldn't suggest it without Gimli, Bearer of Grudges.

Also, I would stay away from the [Rohan] allies except for Deor, Leowyn, and Aldor. Then you can use a better Eomer, like Eomer, Third Marshal of Riddermark or Eomer, Rohirrim Captain. Those allies will also help you cycle better.

Edit: I said Aldred, meant Aldor. Thanks shark.

Aldred is not an ally, just FYI.

How do you intend to get the archery bonus from Dinendal? Allies do not add to the archery total unless you are at their home site.

Where is Fortress Never Fallen? Staple card in [Rohan] decks (unless you use Let Us Be Swift). You are in serious Grima, Wormtongue territory. What about starting Gimli and Legolas and using Dunharrow Plateau to grab Preparations? You can stack Slaked Thirsts on there to keep away from Grima.

In short, this deck looks very meta specific which isn't bad (as long as you are in that meta). But I would start Gimli and Legolas or start Gimli and Eowyn. You can always add more copies of Eomer since you look to want to be able to heal your allies and that way you can use your Simbelmyne on something that is possibly more important.

And why not Tale of the Great Ring instead of Severed His Bonds?

Here is the deck my brother runs. That is not card-for-card what it actually is...he's changed it slightly over the course of a few tests on GCCG.

Anyways, it is smaller, cycles a little better, and might give you a few ideas.

I heard he uses mixed sites, so maybe he uses a site 6 from Fellowship block.

Of course there are better decks, since there are better cards. I know you know, but just wanted to point it out again. But even with these cards, there are some flaws. The odds of getting 1 Legolas in a huge sized deck are very slim. So you will run in to trouble. I would add an other, more suitable elf ally, rumil or orophin.
I would indeed start with either Legolas and Eowyn, or Gimli and Eowyn. Cut the Dwarven Axe, so you can play 2 hand axes on Gimli, so your hand doesn't clogg. Also, it is an uncommon, so maybe within reach, Quick as may be comes to mind. Maneuver wounding is great.
