Defense of the Shire/Sack of the Shire
« on: July 27, 2010, 10:37:28 AM »
Frodo and Co. on their return journey have found the Shire in shambles. Enlisting the help of their allies and familiar friend Gandalf, they seek to fight off the encroaching corruption of Saruman's mischief.

(33)
Frodo, Old Bilbo's Heir - The One Ring, SaWtC
1x Sam, Great Elf Warrior
1x Merry, Rohirrim Squire
1x Pippin, Sworn to Service

4x Gandalf, Defender of the West
1x Bilbo, Well-spoken Gentlehobbit
1x Rosie, Hobbiton Lass
1x Bounder
1x Filibert Bolger, Wily Rascal
1x Melilot Brandybuck, Merry Dancer
1x Farmer Maggot, Chaser of Rascals

4x Hobbit Sword
1x Sting, BotEL
1x Narya

1x Grown Suddenly Tall
2x Roll of Thunder
2x Let Us Not Tarry
4x NfFatRoD
1x On Your Doorstep

1x The Tale of the Great Ring
2x Trust Me As You Once Did
2x There and Back Again

(33)
Minions:

3x Uruk-hai Patrol
3x Uruk-hai Marauder
3x Uruk Besieger
3x Uruk Veteran
1x Uruk Assault Band
1x Advance Uruk Patrol
1x Uruk Rear Guard
1x Saruman, Servant of the Eye
1x Siege Troop

2x Broad-bladed Sword

2x Sack of the Shire
2x We Are the Fighting Uruk-hai

2x Suffered Much Loss
3x Attack on Helm's Deep
2x Down to the Last Child
1x Burning of the Westfold
1x Saruman's Ambition
1x Greed

The fellowship keys off of Gandalf sigs with TMAYOD and Let Us Not Tarry to allow hobbits to win skirmishes. Allies provide ample support. Merry and Pippin manipulate the threat pool with their texts and NfFatRoD. Corsairs would be a tough opponent (hence the 2x Roll of Thunder) but while possesion removal is lacking, burden protection and condition removal is good. The idea of this deck is to keep with the book's theme--of a homeland corrupted--not how it was portrayed in the film.
The minions side was something I threw together with cards I had.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

I'd rather use Depart Silently than Let Us Not Tarry. 2 copies of Barliman Butterbur would save the day vs corsairs and would allow you to get those Roll of Thunder back.

I'm not sure if I like those threats-adding hobbits. Where is A Promise?

For your shadow, Ferocity is a must with Suffered Much Loss. Otherwize, if you aren't going 100% battlegrounds, don't use Suffered Much Loss. Adding a copy of Burning of Westfold would be nice because it is one of the best condition removals.

I played against berserkers with sarumans snows and sack of the shire yesterday. It is quite scary to have to fight huge berserkers with no help and then they become fierce!

Saruman's Snows is great vs superstrong Elvents or Elven Telepathy.

I think that getting rid of the threat hobbits for Merry, Friend to Sam and Pippin, Friend to Frodo would work well (and still 3 sigs for Trust Me)
--that makes me like Depart Silently over Let Us Not Tarry (thanks cw0rk)
A Promise is a good add (wish it were a tale though)
adding Barliman Butterbur works and so would a copy of Fireworks

-healing isn't that great
Dunland would tear this deck up :( ---but I don't really want to go the wounding route

thx for shadow ideas--I'll be sure to use saruman's snows and not use the battleground keyword.

the problem I see with this deck is that this fellowship has to really strain its self to keep up with the "Jones" Aka Minions and lets say you're facing a minions with out conditons and possestions but pure Skirmishes  Archers or swarms
