Different blocks can be mixed?
« on: July 14, 2010, 11:20:21 AM »
Hey, I just started getting into this game (the movie blocks, through Mount Doom)..
Maybe a stupid question: are the 3 movie blocks meant to be played separately?  For instance, can Fellowship cards be used while playing a Two Towers game?  Or the other way: Can you play a Fellowship game with cards from later sets like Return of the King?
I'm sure it's probably down to preference, but I often see people refer to making "Fellowship decks" or "Two Towers decks" or how the pool of cards from Return of the King is bad compared to the others (which doesn't matter if you use earlier cards..)
Thanks!

Yes, it's totally preference and what you want to play. There are different formats where only certain "blocks" are allowed (for instance, "Towers block" is only the Towers sets 4-6, while "Towers standard" is sets 1-6). In informal play, especially as you're learning the game, you may as well mix up all the cards you have (while using the site path from one block). Limiting the card pool to certain blocks just provides an interesting twist on the games for those who like it.

Let me know if you have any other / clarifying questions. Hope that helps.

Thank you much!  I've noticed some cards are reprinted in later sets (Hobbit Sword and Pathfinder, for example) which had me wondering if you weren't supposed to use earlier blocks with later blocks.  But I see that it's up to the players.

Good observation - they reprinted those cards so that you have the option to play a single block only, but you don't have to. For instance, it would be hard to protect Frodo in a Towers-only block without a hobbit sword, so they reprinted it in that block so that you can play Towers only.

Movie Block uses all cards from set 1 to 10 except the X-List.

Also, you'll only use sites from sets 7-8-10.

Feel free to ignore this part, as I do.
