Once in the head, or twice in the chest?
« on: December 31, 2011, 01:13:24 AM »
Title of post in for 2 reasons, first to hopefully draw attention to the topic and second the deck in based on 2 ideas. Both are [Sauron] evilness. Cards like Desperate defense of the ring that gives the opponent a choice 2 add burdens or toss 3 cards. I wanted to take advantage re guardless of this choice so here is what I came up with.

Shadow (35)
1x *Ithil Stone (9R+47)
1x *Dead Marshes (5R95)
4x Desperate Defense of the Ring (1R244)
1x Teeth of Mordor (5U110)
4x Tower Of Barad-Dur (3R104)
3x Enduring Evil (1R246)
3x Rope and Winch (7U309)
3x *Grishnakh, Orc Captain (5R100)
1x *Orc Insurgent (6U104)
2x *Orc Seeker (7R306)
4x Orc Chaser (7C298)
4x Orc Pursuer (5C108)
4x Orc Stalker (7U307)

Idea is to punish the opponent re guardless. Initiative orcs for when they toss and enduring evil for when they add those burdens. I was browsing the who is online area and another topic caught my eye (but it was in the magic forums). I opened it and those catchy little auto-links got me again. RAW auto-linked to Rope and Winch and being the type of person that wants to play lesser used cards I got an idea. Why not run sauron stuff that discards the opponents hand and adds to mine. Desperate Defense of the ring was the first thought and to add to that grishnakh lets me draw cards or adds burdens. Too build on the burden idea I thought about Enduring Evil and that Pelennor Flat.

Lets say in a best case scenario you have Ithil Stone in play, Grishnakh, and Orc Stalker. You have a Rope and winch in hand (and most people will let you draw with grishnakh) you have 11 cards in hand and your opponent tossed hand with either Pelennor Flat or your Towers of Barad-dur. DDotR finishes off their hand. you have initiative for Orc stalker now he is 16 can play RaW to toss the remaining 10 Stalker is now strength 36.

I was thinking of a few other cards for the deck but I hate to have so few minions and have to reply and an even longer draw out setup. Idea were Legions of Mordor to make them fierce and possible Orc Banner to give them more strength in those fierce fights, but that would make the deck have so many more support than actual minions to my liking. I also thought about Orc Officer, he would more than likely get his burdens and I am still considering him as an option a lot . Might remove Dead Marshes (or Teeth of Mordor) and the Orc Insurgent for 2x Orc Officer still.

Anyway that is my wacky idea and to think it all started when i went to a topic in the magic forums by mistake and saw the bright blue text of an auto-link. Let me know if there is any hope for this deck or if there is anything to change to perhaps make it better.

seems to mee like a sauron deck that imitates morcs....could function, especially against alternative RB.
maybe you could change Teeth of Mordor to Flames Within.

only thing is if it doesn't work you could help your opponent to cycle...

Tested, it was against a choke deck though and it was nasty. Won at site 4 by playing an Orc Stalker after killing the rest of the fellowship at prior sites.

Paired it with Preparation Dwarves that use Aragorn, Defender of the Free Peoples to heal them with Stout and Strong. That way if I run out of events early or need certain minions back in the deck (since I will more than likely be tossing my hand with every Rope and Winch) I can benefit from that by decking out and putting back in what is needed when it's needed .

So Nasty they will basically give me the initiative (and maybe the burdens too) and then it's overwhelming time. It actually worked ALOT better than I would have thought. I will definitely be play testing this more in case I just happened to get a good match up and/or draws .

Interesting, I hope I can play against this some day :) I had a similar idea of using Tower of Bard-dur to gain initiative and abuse Suffered Much Loss, but so far with no success.

I just curious about this:

I'm sure it doesn't work this way since it is worked may not instead of can not, but if the Fellowship had Frodo, CH and can spot 3 unbound Companions does this mean that when Rope and Winch is played can they not discard cards for the shadow events text? That would be awful if this was true, but I'm thinking they can choose to discard and not use Frodo's text.

Also thinking of dropping Teeth of Mordor and perhaps Dead Marshes since with Preparations on the Free People's side can recycle the minions and conditions later if discarded. That would give me 2 free card slots for perhaps Grond (or 2) and something else fun .

Sounds fun, I wonder if Orc Officer would be worth your while.
No one loves you like I do.

I built a simlar deck but i abused Desperate Defence Of the Ring with set 19 Nertea, and Bill Ferny (both) to abuse assignment and Grima to abuse the fact that the companions are bearing more cards. and Instead of initiative orcs i use Orc Patrol and Gate Sentry to be disruptive. Grishnakh is also very good.

I don't think Frodo, CH would trigger Rope and Winch since it's the choice of the FP. Or am I mistaken? Also, if you want more cards, Orc Pursuer* could help if you want that extra +2 boost!
