On IMDB this HBO series gets an incredible high rating. I am a big fan of the book, well I liked it a lot to be more precise... Did anyone see the show and can you give me your view on it?

Haven't read the book, but saw the whole 1st season. The acting is quite amazing and the characters are either lovable or detestable, which is very good. Can't really mention any details I didn't like, though I remember there were some. I finished it a long while ago, and while I can't remember everything in much detail, the taste it left me is quite good and I enjoyed the whole series, and that is pretty much the objective of storytelling.

I haven't seen the show but my brother got me the book series for Christmas. I haven't gotten around to reading them yet...most of my recent focus has been on early 1900s English prose and mid-18th century Weimar Classicism.

But I've heard good things about both so I'm sure I'll start reading soon.

I've been systematically going through Dylan Thomas's short stories. I'm a big Dylan Thomas fan and really appreciate comparing him with American contemporary Robert Frost.

A few days into the New Year I re-read Goethe's Sorrows of a Young Werther and am now going through Friedrich Schiller's play The Robbers.

As for lighter reading, I always tend to have some sort of beat literature--Kerouac, Burroughs, Ginsberg, etc.--nearby and also recently read Down the Highway, a Howard Sounes biography on Bob Dylan which I highly recommend.

I've got some stuff already lined up between finishing my current pursuits and getting to the Game of Thrones series, but I might have to pace through the series in between some of my other

I'm a big fan of the books, so of course I watched the HBO show when it aired last spring. The characters and locations are very true to the book. I honestly got goosebumps the moment The Wall made its first appearance on screen.

Overall, the best-portrayed characters are Robert, Tyrion, Varys, Arya, Joffrey and Jorah Mormont. That isn't to say the others are bad, but those ones most closely match my mental image of their characters from the book. They still did a fantastic job bringing Martin's universe to life. Even the minor supporting characters like the Hound, Ser Ilyn and Pycelle are excellent in their limited roles.

The big event towards the end of the novel was done even better than I could have hoped for. There's one minor addition that the show's producers included that makes the event so much more emotional and makes the impact of that event more personal.

Season 2 airs in April, and I'm really looking forward to it!

Wow Bib-allcardsdowhattheysay-fortuna is bakc...thanks for the review, I most certainly will buy the show on DVD, or blueray, depending when my old TV finally dies and a HD-flatscreen is needed. Yeah, I still have a big sucker, weighing nearly 50 kg (110lbs I guess)....

Yeah, I had been lurking for the last couple years, and only recently discovered the Gempukku way of playing LOTR online, so you'll definitely see more of me here.

I totally understand your TV dilemma. I got a 42" LCD right after Christmas, and I am so in love with it. No Blu-Ray player yet, but my Xbox games have never looked so good. Especially Skyrim.
