Singular vs. Plural
« on: April 30, 2012, 01:17:21 PM »
We need to decide on a standard for singular vs. plural forms of wiki pages. My vote is for singular because it works best with the keyword links. Therefore, using:

Site instead of Sites
Culture instead of Cultures
Race instead of Races
Possession instead of Possessions

etc.

I'm adding it to the Autolink code and it really should be one way or the other. I know we already have Cultures, for example, but I think it would be best to use Culture and make a redirect from Cultures over.

I'm a bit torn, actually.  I started with singular for the reason you said.  But then I realized that when people look for a page, they want to know about "keywords", not "keyword".  It's kind of hit-and-miss; in fact, I almost wonder if we shouldn't default to plural.

Gah! I started with plural for the same reason. BUT --

A good thing to know is that with setting up the Autolink it can do most of the linking for us and automatically take care of the singural/plural issues. Go to a test page and type the following:

Possession
Possessions

Ally
Allies

Note that both sets will link to the singular version. I can adapt links and add exceptions as needed.
