Need help slimming down a Nazgul shadow
« on: October 29, 2012, 10:14:26 AM »
Hi, I'm working on a enduring nazgul/burden deck and I need some help slimming it down as it is at the moment 38 cards which is impairing my free-people side(Rohan-Gandalf)

So here is the list atm:

2 Ulaire Toldea MoM
1 Ulaire Toldea Winged Sentry
1 Ulaire Toldea TotO
2 Ulaire Enquea LoM
2 Ulaire Enquea TotO
2 The Witch King BC
2 The Witch King LoA
2 Ulaire Nelya Thrall of the One
2 Ulaire Cantea Thrall of the One
2 Ulaire Cantea LoDG

2 Ring of Rancor
1 Ring of Asperity
4 Fell beast
2 Nazgul Sword
1 the Pale blade

2 All Blades Perish
1 The Ring Draws Them
4 Blade tip
1 BNaP
1 Winged and Ominous
1 Black Marshal

There are several cards i would like to add like 1 more of ring of Asperity, Black marshal and BNAP, along with a few copies of relentless charge for the enduring Nazgul and to kill archers, yet I already need to slim the deck down considerably so i am wondering if anyone had any suggestions/advice?

Basic strategy is to add a few burdens for the Nazgul swords, Toldeas and Enqueas, while using a combination of overwhelming and beat down to kill of the fellowship.

Thanks

Take out the Blade Tips and Toldeas (maybe keep 1 or 2 copies of Winged Sentry). Add 1-2 BNAP, all Enqueas should be TOTO, as well as all Witch-kings should be LOTN.
All cards do what they say, no more, no less.

I would drop all of your nazzy rings. In my experience all they do is clog your hand with expensive minions. However, I have not had success using the rings and I'm sure someone else around here has successfully used them and they are groaning as they read my post ;)

Second on the blade tips. Remove them. They are mechanically cool but experience indicates they are hard to get onto companions. Especially with all the discarding that happens. Try focusing elsewhere. Also consider adding morgul skulkers from set 1.

hmm, blade tips have generally worked quite well for me, might be a meta game thing as condition removal isn't that common among the decks I play against. Will however try to remove them and see if it works better.

How about minion to non minion ratio?, should I remove a few nazguls if I remove the blade tips to gain roughly the same ratio, and if so any suggestions which ones should go?

Overall, 38 is very large for a nazgul deck. Try to cut it down to 35. 30 is best in my opinion, but there are a lot of valid reasons to run a 32/32 deck. It is obviously better to run more minions than stuff for the minions.

I mentioned this in another thread but it bears mentioning again. Condition discard is very important. I play in a group that doesn't use condition removal... at least they didn't until I started using it. Condition discarding is the best defense your cards have against your opponent. Since the back bone of many decks is in its conditions it is imperative to stock some condition discards somewhere in your deck.

The most helpful advice I can offer is to find a mechanic and stick with it (IE- wounding, burdens or healing). You have a good selection of conditions which will allow you to exert your nazzys so maximize it and, again, cut down your deck size. Nazgul cycle very slow. By the end of your game (site 8 or 9) you should have less than 10 cards in your draw deck.

For Nazgul Burden try adding Sauron! Add:

Desperate Defense of the Ring (1R244) x4
Thin and Stretched (1R279) x1
Morgul Skulker (1U258) x a few and a couple of high vit Sauron Orcs for exerting

Also get up to 4 Ulaire Toldea MoM and get rid of other toldeas and Nazzy rings / fell beasts. The Strat is to put DDOTR on his best guys and use Toldea to trigger them yourself when you can. Gollum, Stinker (5R25) and Bill Ferny, Swarthy Sneering Fellow (2R75) work wonders for that strat too. Basically just focus. Your trying to do too much here. Get it down to 30 cards and if it doesnt add a burden directly or indirectly cut it.

P.S. with all the above, I'll just leave this here -> Ulaire Enquea, Lieutenant of Morgul (1U231)
