Need a shadow that controls a lot of sites; Besiegers?
« on: February 17, 2013, 02:57:38 AM »
Hi guys! I am looking for ideas in making a Shadow side that would control a lot of sides (4 or 5 per game ideally). Additionally, I want it to be able to work in case it meets Galadriel, LR.

I don't have much experience with Besiegers, but something would tell me that it would work well...

Otherwise, perhaps that Isengard or Dunland could work too, but it would require me to splash Siege Troop in order to put Terrible As the Dawn.

My question is, what is your most successful deck at controlling sites?

PS: I am not willing to change my FP side, which is Gondor Rangers... so do not suggest me a Southron Archer Bomb deck that forces me to use Dwarves.

You should try Southron Archery Bomb... ;) just kidding

I have 3 site controlling decks (all are 35 cards shadows):
- Dunland
- Uruk
- Besiegers

Of those 3, Uruk is definitely the most efficient to control sites (I don't say it's the most efficient, Besiegers are better but don't control as many sites as easily). Dunland is the worst.

I mostly play casual, so I'm not very concerned by LR that my friends seldom use. But she is a problem for both Uruk and besiegers as they mostly rely on conditions. Dunland are less sensitive (minions take control of sites), but LR is often in an Elf fellowship, which means archery. There are plenty of anti-archery cards with Dunland, but they are not efficient enough against 2 or 3 archers (and with elves, you often have more).

Here are the deck lists:

Dunland
4x Dunlending Elder
3x Freca, Hungry Savage
2x Hillman Horde
3x Hillman Tribe
2x Saruman, Rabble-rouser
2x Wulf, Dunlending Chieftain
4x Hides
3x War Club
4x Burn Every Village
1x Too Long Have These Peasants Stood
1x No Retreat
2x Over the Isen
2x Ready to Fall

Uruk
4x Dunlending Elder
2x Lurtz, Servant of Isengard
4x Uruk Besieger
1x Uruk Captain
4x Uruk-hai Band
2x Uruk-hai Horde
4x Uruk-hai Marauder
3x Uruk-hai Mob
1x Uruk-hai Patrol
1x Sack of the Shire
1x Constantly Threatening
3x Attack on Helm's Deep
1x Burning of Westfold
3x Down to the Last Child

Besiegers
2x Gorgoroth Agitator
4x Gorgoroth Assassin
1x Gorgoroth Swarm
4x Great Hill Troll
4x Mordor Pillager
2x Olog-hai of Mordor
2x Siege Troop
3x Troll of Gorgoroth, Abomination of Sauron
1x Grond, Hammer of the Underworld
1x Ithil Stone
1x Encirclement
4x Great Siege-towers
3x Their Marching Companies
1x Tower Walkway
2x Troop Tower

Feedback and advice are of course welcome, this is why I share them after all :)

Why do you need a deck to control a lot of sites?
No one loves you like I do.

Because my fellowship is having too much trouble against Dunland Elders. I've figured out that if I pair it with a Shadow that also takes control of sites before my opponent, it could help a lot.

what about a deck centered around Elendil, The Tall (9R+32) that uses 4 copies of Sapling of the White Tree (9R35)? You could double up on the usefulness of the artifacts by using Narsil, Blade of the Faithful (9R+34) and Scroll of Isildur (9R36) too! Banner of Westernesse (6U51) might also be useful in a deck like that.

there is also Theoden, Son of Thengel (4C292) which you could start with. Slap Hearken to Me (4R94) on him and they will never control a site again! Of Course, there is always Crack Into Rubble (6U25) if you go Gandalf and use say Quickbeam and a Treebeard ally at the very least.

Anyway I just think it's easier to liberate sites than to out-control your opponent. That could end up with you owning site 1 and 3 and him owning sites 2 4 and 5 for example. That's not a helpful situation for you at all at that point...

I use Smeagol as my Ring-bearer. They would all die as I move.

Well then if he gets sites you are screwed unless you switch your deck. If you are running Smeagol as the Ring-bearer you should move too fast for the sites to matter. Use Don't Look at Them (6R39), Don't Follow the Lights (6C38) and Clever Hobbits (7U54) to make sure you kill the dunland guys before they can win and discard the ones you can't kill. You have to double move often with this deck which means the opponent will always have enough sites to grab even if you run site control too. Thats all you can do, be fast and kill his minions.
