Bill Ferny (2R75)
« on: April 09, 2015, 09:15:46 AM »
I got Bill Ferny (http://lotrtcgwiki.com/wiki/lotr02075) in a booster pack, is it just me or is it a pretty lousy card? Nazgûl are not roaming, but all my Nazgul minions have such a low site number anyway (2 or 3) that it won't matter unless I draw him in my first hand and play him on site 2. He'd still cost 2, so I might not even afford to buy him *and* a Nazgul (with the cheap shadow number on site 2 I don't get a lot of twilight tokens to spend).

Does the assignment text mean that I can assign him wherever I want? I guess his +4 strength will come in handy, but I rarely get a lot of twilight tokens to spend and his twilight cost seems a bit much, it makes more sense to me to put in some free skirmish events instead to make ny Nazgul minions win skirmish.

What are your opinions?

Bill Ferny is actually a great card, simply because the Free Peoples player cannot assign him (which means, you can). He can be a straight up +4 strength bonus to try to overwhelm, or you can even pop a Nazgul Scimitar on him for fun. He's also part of the hilarious strategy of Ferny Frost, where you (theoretically) use Saruman's Frost to make Frodo strength -2 (to 2), and you assign Ferny to him to overwhelm and end the game.

If we're gonna play games, I'm gonna need a cup of coffee.

Maybe in a different deck then, in my Nazgul deck all my posessions/events are for Nazguls only, so I'd only get an expensive strength bonus. I'd just rather throw in some events that are free to use.
The Saruman's Frost strategy sounds funny! Maybe I should try that, although Frodo usually has a Hobbit sword or some events not to be overwhelmed that easily.

You can make Bill Ferny fierce with Ulaire Otsea, Lieutenant of Morgul. That way you can use him as pump in a fierce skirmish.

These decks usually use Uruk Savage to play the frost so they can play Parry in Maneuver phase to drop the bonus ;)

^This. It's also probably recommended that unless you're running events to try and pump Ferny, to throw a couple Saruman's Snows in there as well to prevent last ditch Frodo saves. I'm currently trying to (physically) make a (Frodo) ring-bearer get trolled deck that has Dark Shape Sprang/Old Villain as well as Ferny Frost and  Saved from the Fire, which enables me to burn Smeagol and pull the Gollum cards....but it'll be more fun than actually competitive.

Another good use for Bill Furny is against alternate ring bearers.  Even though he will likely lose the skirmish, he will trigger those unpleasant texts of Gimli BOG, Isildur BOH, Boromir BOC, & Faramir BOQ.  Bill Furny is R-Listed in expanded.
