Faramir Strategies
« on: December 24, 2012, 12:45:14 PM »
What are some good strategies for this guy? I know Faramir, SoD is a great splash comp. Any ring-bound faramir is great against easterlings and their burdens, but what other strategies have you seen? I would like to make a new deck based around him but I only know the gondor ranger and SoD strategies. What have you seen?

Faramir CoG works in Noble Leaders, as you vcan start boromir (RB), denethor, and use aragorn and another companion (Elendil, Derufin, Gandalf)

In Expanded, Faramir, Captain of Ithilien works great in a Madril Ithilien Blade deck. His healing powers are like an extra Ithilien Blade. Those abilities also work great in conjunction with Steward's Legacy, so you can cancel the special abilities of dangerous minions during the maneuver phase, and let you spread wounds out for more efficient use of Might of Numenor. On top of all that, he's Hunter 2, and -1 when you start with him... but he still qualifies as a 3-cost character for purposes of playing Ranger of the White Tree. He's basically fantastic.

I like using Faramir, BoQ with Pippin, WOBAS and Boromir, DOMT: Boromir bearing Faramir's Bow, IL means Faramir can take out any minion, and I'll try to remove burdens with home and hearth, by playing Pippin over and over.

I loke to use Faramir, Wizard's Pupil with Merry, Friend to Sam, Frodo, Son of Drogo And Gandalf, the Grey Pilgrim in a pipeweed deck since Faramir can bear Aragorn's pipe and you can use most of his text. The fifth companion can either be Boromir or Aragorn (Ellessar Telcontar con be great too with Anduril, he can become quite a tank).

This works REALLY WELL with Stewards' Legacy, Ranger's Cloak, and Soldier's Cache.

yeah, those strategies would prove most effective! Not to get picky, because I appreciate the input, what about movie block?

Wizard's Pupil with pipeweed works in movie (look what I wrote yesterday) you should try it out, it's a lot of fun and it works allright even though it's not the very best deck, it can definately give you some victories.

I have all of those in the same deck. Basicly it's a modern take on an exert to wound rangers deck. I'll post the deck list when I get home.

Just in case anybody is interested in the decklist:

Faramir, BOQ
ATAR

Boromir, DOMT
Pippin, WOBAS
Faramir's Sword
2x Invigorated
4x No travellers in this land
4x Soldier's Cache
2x Faramir's Company
3x Ranger's Cloak
2x Sapling of the White Tree
Decorated Barricade
2x Home and Hearth
2x Faramir's Bow, IL
Scroll of Isildur
Mablung, RoI
Madril, DOO (or Madril, LL if playing strictly standard)
4x IB
Thorongil
Damrod, DOG
2x Stewards' Legacy
tremendous wall

The choice of Madril doesn't make a lot of difference, since he's in there actually in case I'm having a real hard time making minions roaming, in that case he's the one I'm fetching with the prancing pony / east wall of rohan.

Some cool things this deck has going:

- I get to fetch two companions, one for prancing pony and another one for east wall of rohan... this makes the deck A LOT more versatile, responsive, and I don't need to play doubles of companion cards.

- Stewards' Legacy makes a lot of magic in this deck: Faramir's Bow, IL on Boromir + WOBAS means a dead minion on Faramir and a dead minion on Mablung, considering both minions have vitality 3. The deck packs lots of constant healing, so it's OK to exert the guys. Faramir exerting for IB means two minions that cant use special abilities too.

- IB lol

- If Faramir is not battling a lot, Home and Hearth will stop corruption decks or give them a REAL hard time with WOBAS. But it's primary role is to allow for Faramir to battle consistently, as he will just kill anybody.

- Faramir + WOBAS Is just unfair lol

Well that's it, hope you like it. The deck is entirely my idea :)

That is very clever. The synergy between those 4 cards is a terrific minion killing engine

Just to clarify If you are combinding Faramir, Captain of Ithilien with Ranger of the White Tree in your opening starting hand does that mean that Faramir, Captain of Ithilien will play for free? and still give you room for something else as well?
