Guy Fawkes Night/Bonfire night
« on: November 05, 2008, 06:46:19 AM »
Do any other countries know of this day today or in fact actually celebrate it with fireworks and stuff?

Im going to a display tonight and have a couple of boxes of fireworks to let off with my family sunday when we all get together.

We used to have it in Australia when I were a lad (35 years ago or more) but then they outlawed fireworks and it was no more.

Well, we don't have it in the US, but I do know of it.
Forget it. I'm not arguing with the computer anymore to try to get the sig I want....

I LOVE Guy Fawkes night!  It reminds me of the 4th of July when I was a kid!  They banned fireworks in California, though, so the 4th of July wasn't very exciting when I became an adult.

The next door neighbor always puts on a big show.  And it's going to start soon!  I'm going to take the kids out to watch.  Great times!

My Mom's birthday coincides with it so I know about it. Do people still burn effigies of Guy Fawkes?  :D

They do in other places in the UK, but not around here.  In my neighborhood, they burn giant bonfires and shoot off fireworks.

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I can think of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent
To blow up the King and Parli'ment.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England's overthrow;
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

Do any of you brits know this?
