Raider Southron Wounding - Shadow (Expanded)
« on: August 15, 2025, 08:59:14 PM »
As the physical cards are getting harder to find these days, I gathered a large physical collection of common and nostalgic decks to play with family and friends as a pre-built game.  I'm posting these decks as a reference and for feedback/discussion to improve on them.  The decks are split into free peoples and shadow sides, all interchangeable at 35 cards each.  There are some obvious drawbacks in doing it this way, but it is 100% worth it to allow mixing/matching and keeping each game unique and interesting.  The idea is to make thematic and fun strategies while maintaining a balance.  These are built with physical cards, so any in the $100+ range are not always going to make it in for their high costs and to maintain balance among the decks.  I include cards from the Expanded format and rules, but some decks might also fit into other formats.  This is one of those decks:

[Raider] Raider Southron Wounding - Shadow (Expanded)
This is probably the deadliest shadow deck in the collection.

Minions:
Desert Lord x3
Elite Archer x4
Southron Bowman x4
Southron Archer Legion x2
Mumak Chieftain x3
Southron Savage x4

Possessions:
Mumak x4

Events:
Whirling Strike x3

Conditions:
Seasoned Leader x4
Rallying Call x2
Field of the Fallen x2

Notes:
Use the archers and Seasoned Leader conditions to exhaust the better companions.  The conditions give enduring, so the archers can get strong as well.  Use Rallying Call to load up threats.  Drop a Whirling Strike to kill a companion.  You can leave 3 twilight to make the opponent think you have a Whirling Strike at times.  When you want to roll in with a heavy bomb, use Mumak Chieftain with a Mumak and pull Seasoned Leaders from the discard using threats.  Then, exert for the strength and enduring bonuses using Field of the Fallen.  The Southron Savage cards are in there because it is easy to spend twilight without adding more minions.

I know most people play Red Wrath instead of Whirling Strike, but I find that Whirling Strike is all you need when you control exertions in the archery phase.  There are just too many free people strategies that can thrive when not yet exhausted.
I used to put in Raider Halberd cards in to always keep the opponent guessing on whether I had a Whirling Strike in my hand without having to leave 3 twilight.
I would love to hear any feedback/suggestions.
