Gimli's IB Rangers with Orc/Nazgul something another
« on: November 17, 2008, 05:02:54 PM »
Here we go, fire away.

Bearer and Ring
*The One Ring, The Ring of Rings (11R1
*Gimli, Bearer of Grudges (9R+4

Fellowship (35)
2x *Ring of Fury (9R+7
1x *Aragorn, Strider (11R54
1x *Denethor, Lord of Minas Tirith (10R28
1x *Faramir, Captain of Gondor (4R116
1x *Madril, Defender of Osgiliath (15R64
4x Gondorian Prowler (15U61
4x Citadel Of Minas Tirith (3R40
1x Hearts Raised (7R103
2x Blood Runs Chill (8R3
3x Calculated Risk (7C4
4x What Are They?(1C119
1x *Aragorn's Bow, Ranger's Longbow (15R56
1x Armor of Khazad (17U1)
1x *Faramir's Bow, Ithilien Longbow (17R29
1x *Gimli's Battle Axe, Trusted Weapon (7R9
4x Ithilien Blade (15C62
3x Ranger's Cloak (15C68

Strategy:

Basic IB deck, get those IBs out and start to discard everything that hits the table. You don't lose a skirmish you heal with Citadel of Minas Tirith. You add threats with either Calculated Risk and/or Aragorn's Bow, Ranger's Longbow. Peel threats with Hearts Raised. Decided to go with Gimli RB to do more drawing (eg. Calculated Risk) and discard some pesky shadow cards with BRC . Basically discard, shoot arrows, and survive .

Shadow (35)
1x Dark Temptation (12R163
4x Demoralized (11U114
2x Forced March (13R108
4x Gates Of The Dead City (3R81
2x Lingering Shadow (12U166
3x *Gothmog, Morgul Leader (18R80
2x *The Witch-king, Morgul King (7R221
3x *Ulaire Enquea, Thrall of the One (10R68
2x *Ulaire Lemenya, Eternally Threatening (15R185
3x *Ulaire Nelya, Third of the Nine Riders (11S222
3x *Ulaire Nertea, Dark Horseman (19P38
4x Black Land Observer (15C101
2x Orkish Lackey (17C80

Strategy:

Basically get out as many Gates of the Dead City and Demoralized as possible. Use [Wraith] cards to add burdens, which will exert companions, which will add twilight. To add burdens you can either play Ulaire Enquea, Thrall of the One and have Gothmog, Morgul Leader get him exhausted and add those burdens during the skirmish phase. If you are facing a 1 or 2 culture fellowship play Ulaire Nertea, Dark Horseman get him on the Ring-bearer. Slap the RB with a Lingering Shadow, get the wounds/exertions on the RB. Next play Dark Temptation and another Nazgul heal the RB twice adding 3 burdens, adding 3 exertions per Gates of the Dead City in play, adding 3 twilight per Demoralized in play. If you manage to have all 4 Gates and all 4 Demoralized in play that would mean 48 extra twilight in the pool. Now what to do with all the extra twilight? I say force the double move. I decided to run threat orcs and Lemenya, ET so when you exhausted the fellowship and hit them with Gothmog's arrows or Lackeys kill they have to eat even more death . With a Witch-king out the poor RB can't take those wounds so say goodbye fellowship. With enough extra twilight out not to hard to see a Witch-king, Gothmog, and several other nice minions out for the double. Gothmog can even use his regroup ability to get a few more minions (Lackey) out of the discard for the double move. Nelya of course cause havoc by replacing your Buckland Homestead, Woody-end, Neekerbreekers' Bog and Doorway to Doom after you get there benefit so you can play them over again

Sites
(0) Buckland Homestead (11S230
(0) Courtyard Parapet (13U188
(0) Woody-end (11S266
[1] Doorway to Doom (18U134
[1]Cavern Entrance (11S232
[1]Neekerbreekers' Bog (11S249
[2]Barazinbar (11S229
[3]Moria Guardroom (11S247
[4] Sirannon Ruins (18U138

Buckland Homestead to discard annoying conditions.
Courtyard Parapet incase you can get the corruption.
Woody-end to turn those burdens into a better swarm for the twilight heavy forced double.
Doorway to Doom to possible kill some companions if you get them exhausted and have the threats setup.
Cavern Entrance for the annoying Great Ring and other skirmish special ability decks.
Neekerbreekers' Bog for more exerting fun with the burdens you can have.
Barazinbar (to start if you go first) to pull Gimli's Axe or Armor of Khazad.
Moria Guardroom to draw a few extra cards when you move.
Sirannon Ruins to just get extra twilight for the shadow if needed.

Well as always let me know what you like, what you hate, and what should be replaced and for what .

If a Balrog falls from a bridge and noone is around, does it make a sound?

Woot I did what, LOL? Yeah Black Land Chieftain would indeed be nice but, is it worth him sitting in hand if I can't spot another [Orc] minion? I will give the deck a test with and without him in and see what happens

You built a Gimli/IB deck! Like I recommended on the Twilght Nazzie thread. I'd drop the Observer for the Black Gate Sentry.

I'd drop 1x Hearts Raised for another Citadel of Minas Tirith. 4 of them = 2 free IBs per turn. Actually, I'd drop yet another for an extra Calculated Risk. You can grab the one with Denethor and use it to make sure your Risks work.

Actually thinking of dropping 2x Hearts Raised and adding that [Dwarven] armor that can assign threats for wounds. Keeping just one hearts raised to peel a threat a site to kep Gorn's Bow in use some when IBs seem to fail . With that sweet [Dwarven] armor who cares if a companion dies with 8 or 9 threats in play. You can just assign 1 wound to a very large fellowship and readd the other 8 threats to keep minions roaming for the IBs .

That is a sick idea, re-adding all the threats you need with the Armor of Khazad. Gimli IB may become my new favourite deck  ;D

And NK, Blood Runs Chill

Necroing this after stumbling across it. I played a game or two with it and really loved the combos that this deck provides. I did make a few sight changes, though.

Ring-bearer: Gimli, Bearer of Grudges
Ring: The One Ring, The Ring of Rings

Adventure deck:
Buckland Homestead
Courtyard Parapet
Woody-End
Cavern Entrance
Neekerbreekers' Bog
Doorway to Doom

1x Denethor, Lord of Minas Tirith
1x Faramir, Captain of Gondor
4x Gondorian Prowler
1x Madril, Defender of Osgiliath
1x Armor of Khazad
1x Gimli's Battle Axe, Trusted Weapon
1x Aragorn's Bow, Ranger's Longbow
2x Athelas
1x Faramir's Bow
4x Ithilien Blade
3x Ranger's Cloak
2x Ring of Fury
2x Blood Runs Chill
3x Calculated Risk
4x What Are They?
4x Citadel of Minas Tirith
1x Hearts Raised

Shadow Draw Deck:
3x Black Land Observer
3x Gothmog, Morgul Leader
2x Orkish Lackey
2x The Witch-king, Morgul King
2x Úlairë Cantëa, Faster Than Winds
3x Úlairë Enquëa, Thrall of the One

3x Úlairë Nertëa, Dark Horseman
4x Demoralized

I added another dark temptation and Cantea, FTW and expanded the deck size as I decked out whilst playing this.
