Gimli & Gloin
« on: January 26, 2009, 08:05:50 AM »
Hi there! Don't know if any of you ever saw this deck, but a friend of mine showed it to me like 4 years ago, and I loved it :) My brother played it for some time, it's a cool dwarven choke deck and I have never posted it here.

Frodo, Resolute Hobbit bearing The One Ring, Such a Weight to Carry

1x Gimli, Faithful Companion or Gimli, Counter of Foes (starting)
1x Gloin, Friend to Thorin (starting)
4x Till Durin Wakes Again
3x Honed
4x Hand Axe
3x Dwarven Axe
1x Gimli's Helm
2x Dwarven Armor
3x Flurry of Blows
1x Endurance of Dwarves
2x Proud and Able
3x Battle to the Last
1x Stairs of Khazad-dum
1x Ring of Guile
1x Ring of Retribution
4x Power According to his Stature
1x Sting, Bane of the Eight Legs
1x The Tale of the Great Ring
1x O Elbereth! Gilthoniel!

It's a big deck, but since almost everything is 0 cost, you'll just drop a lot of stuff every turn and play a lot of events. Gimli is 8 as long as you want him too or you can use the SoG one, that is a nice option too. Frodo can stand a fight at 8 strength base and Hand Axe with PATHS can help a lot. The dwarves are really strong and you'll be giving very little twilight, only three cards will cost you more than 0 in the fellowship phase. Play undergrounds and Gimli and Gloin will be walking fully healed at every site with Till Durin Wakes Again.

I don't agree with 4 PATHS,.. mainly because you don't have burden prevention/removal and you can find yourself facing a corruption deck.
You can say, "well if it's corruption deck I won't use those" but that's why 4 may be too much.
My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that i'm right...

Problem is, it's better to have your hand SLIGHTLY (you can always discard) against corruption than go and lose to swarm decks. In this deck, 4 of them is a dire need, although in most other decks 2-3 would be fine.

Exactly. Remember it's a choke deck with 3 companions and Frodo will be fighting eventually, so 4x PATHS is a must. Even if I play all 4, it's 4 burdens in a 12 resistance Frodo. Again, this is a choke deck, I don't need to prevent my self against a corruption deck that bad because it won't play its best against me.
