A friend used to go by Rubber Chicken in the old ICQ and early AIM days. We thought of other animal that could be funnier when rubberized.

I've used rubber carp ever since.

After Middle Earth, in my opinion Dune is the next best fantasy world/realm ever created and I figured heaps of people would use something from The Lord of The Rings for their screen names so I chose MuadDib as a tribute to another great character from a different place.

Had I gone the other way I would have chosen something to do with Gandalf as he is by far my favourite character from the books and the movies. (Except when he acts like a little, scared wimp when confronted by the Witch King)

I often use this name for my characters in pc games I play: Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Diablo I & II. Mostly given to a fighter class-style character. It's also an unusual name as far as I know so it's not risky to have it already picked when I join some other website or whatever. Completly unrelated to the picture I used though...

When I originally became interested in DCs (which was when I had recently read The Hobbit and thought I could do some cards from it and make a DC block - I did, and it's somewhere on the old Cobra Cards) I joined the Decipher boards and made a fool of myself posting a whole page of [Dwarven] cards and expecting everyone to review them. When I did this, I was quite young and had never tried to be on a forum ever before (in fact the whole concept was very new to me) and I thought a Lord of the Rings name was fairly apt, and I think I went through a couple of options (like Thorin and some others - I don't remember now) and found that they were all taken. And so I had to think of an LotR character that was fairly obscure that no one else would have chosen it, but cool enough that people would know who the #$&*@! I was talking about, and in the end I hit upon Thranduil. Then I found CC and I stuck with the name (I'm a creature of habit like that).

So, that was a lot of words for a very boring story. But hey - such is life.

Jerba came in to being back in 1998 or so when I joined the Decipher SWCCG boards. A Jerba, in Star Wars, is a four legged beast of burden. You can see one in front of the Cantina in Star Wars ep. 4. It is also a reference to where George Lucas filmed Star Wars IV's Tatooine scenes on the Tunisian island of Djerba, which transliterated into English is often Jerba.

The reason I chose it? It sounded good, was a Star Wars reference, and it began with J like my name.

I have actually phased out Jerba for the most part, except for use on the SWCCG, LOTRTCG, and Crimson Skies boards. My other name is usually Tervlon. Which I randomly typed one day and decided i liked it.

Star Wars djarik and great card from SWCCG.

Years ago, in one of the first tournaments that I played in (at a con in Tennessee), I used it to avoid total annihilation in a battle by a competitor who smugly thought he had won the game on that turn.  It was after that tournament that I joined up as a Gold Squadron member (Gold 20).

Since then, I've just held on to it as a name as it is rarely a used name on any board/forum/website and is, now, easy to remember.

That's about it.

It took me a while to find this thread again..

I was told recently what MuadDib means in arabic: "One who prays for the lonely graves".

Apparently if someone died without any relatives, then the guy who prays for him is called a MuadDib.

Thanks to Kaan on gccg for telling me this, I at least found it interesting.

Thx for bringing that post back to life. I wasn't around when it first started so it was interesting to read. I've never given much thought to peoples nicknames, but there can be some really nice stories behind those.

My name is Hrvoje (which is a solely Croatian name) and as a some kind of derivation of that my nickname is hrcho. What is interesting is that I was nicknamed so by two friends who don't know each other at about the same time. One friend was from my class in elementary school and the other was from geeky group of friends. It got so popular that I don't even respond to my real name anymore. Even my mother calls me hrcho.

hrcho doesn't mean anything. The word most resembling it would be "hrchak" which means hamster in Croatian. I assure you I resemble no hamster. :)

Just curious, how do you pronounce hrcho?
