Hi, I'm Calam, and I'm a LotR TCG Addict...
« on: October 07, 2009, 02:08:34 PM »
No not really.  (Not completely, anyway.)  But I am new here, and have a lot of questions.  Let me first start by introducing myself...

I started playing LotR TCG somewhere around the time Ents of Fangorn came out (or thereabouts).  Since then I've built a small but decent collection, and a handful of fairly good decks.  At the time that I started playing, I was unable to attend tournaments and my opponents were almost exclusively friends and people I knew, so I guess you could say I played pretty casually.  I was never really able to make it to a tournament and it reached a point where the people I usually played with started moving or were no longer willing to play games anymore after the Mount Doom set because we weren't too happy about the re-arrangement of cultures and the development of resistance in the game.  I was willing to keep playing, but after a while nobody really wanted to take the time to do it anymore... So I stopped buying cards.  I had no interest in the Online TCG because I didn't have the cash to spend anymore, and I was not happy with the idea of re-starting my collection all over.

Here I am several years later having just recently re-discovered my collection.  When I found it, I was overcome with a nostalgic desire to go buy some boosters just for the joy of opening them one more time (even if the only person who cared was me) and was delighted to discover how cheap the cards have become in comparison to what I was spending in the game's heyday.  I'm planning on buying a pair of Return of the King booster boxes from a local card shop that still has a few, and maybe cherry-pick from the collection of promos and singles the guy has.

However, I was always less interested in collecting than I was in building good decks to play with, and seeing that I have moved and know absolutely nobody in my area who plays this game (I'm in Southern California in the rare chance that someone here is nearby and wants to play) it feels sort of pointless to be spending money on old cards I can't use and have value to only me.

I really want to keep playing this game.  A few days ago I found LackeyCCG, which was totally awesome...  Gowever when I tried to download the LOTR plugin, the link is broken, and the plugin downloads but I have no cards in my library...

[hopedashed]WTF!?!?[/hopedashed]

Seeing that the LOTR OTCG is going to be shut down in June of next year, I'm curious as to why you guys aren't using LackeyCCG, or why the link to the plugin is broken.  I love this game but it's pointless to me to collect cards if I don't at least have someone to play with from time to time.

Half the joy of a TCG is collecting it with someone else who enjoys it, and I'm not real excited about solitaire games.

So my questions are as follows:

1) Do you guys use LackeyCCG and if so, why is the link busted?
2) Do tournaments/organized games still take place anywhere?
3) Is 36$ a good price for a RotK Booster Box?
4) What is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything?

1. GCCG is the most popular online game around here, it seems.
2. I just scheduled a tournament in the DC area, so I assume other people do as well.
3. potomacdist.com had them for $26 I think, but there is a $150 purchase minimum.
4. I have nothing witty enough to answer.

What is GCCG?  Or are you talking about LackeyCCG?  I'm still curious why the link won't work, seeing that it's hosted on the lotrtcgwiki.com server...  When I went online with Lackey I couldn't find anyone with the LotR plugin anyway.  Am I missing something?

Calam, I used to maintain the LackeyCCG plugin -- in fact, this whole website was born out of a web database I made from the plugin data. I was not aware that the link was broken... perhaps I could look into that. Anyway, there was a lot of info on it (and posts by me) before Trevor reset the forums.

In any case, I have long since lost interest in maintaining Lackey since Manuel introduced us to GCCG, which I can say, without a doubt, is far superior. There is quite an active online players community. Feel free to check the link in my signature and try it out. :)

I may go back and fix the Lackey LotR plugin one of these days, but it's not high on my priority list.

Beautiful.  Installing it now.  I especially like the whole in-game money system; that makes it more fun.

(sorry for double-post)

Ok so new question: deck-building.

What is Zorbec's Deck-builder and where do I find it?
How do I add cards to a deck in GCCG?

EDIT:

Downloaded Zorbec's Deck-Builder, don't have card images, but I do have all the starter decks.  I figured out how to import a starter deck into GCCG, but now I can't figure out how to start a game...  Also, I'm looking at the "collection" page in GCCG, and apparently I have none of the cards listed.  I thought GCCG would give me every card much like Lackey does?  Or does that only apply when you make a deck?

Whether or not you "own" the card in GCCG, you can use it in a deck; however, if you do play with a deck that has all cards that you "own" on GCCG, you are awarded a promo card at the end of each game.

That is the only way to get Promotional cards (except by buying them from other members) and people pay quite well for them (in GCCG money, which is worth...nothing). But it is still cool that you can build your collection online but still play with any card.

With Zorbec's, you can display the card "template" which shows the layout, str, vit, etc. without an image. Use the "cards" button. If you have an image library, you can specify it in the settings.

The collection manager in GCCG is for managing a virtual collection (opening packs, etc). You don't have to "own" any cards at all to play games. It's just for fun.

I'm still confused as to how to start a game.  I can put myself at a table but how do I make the game begin?

A lot of right-clicking is involved in GCCG!

I right-click and try to click the option that says "start game" but nothing happens.
