Got rares...? NO!
« on: December 14, 2009, 06:29:48 AM »
Hey guys,

I hope this is the right place for such a thread, if not, I apologize, please move it to the relevant forum.

In the past, during the offline days, we had this No-Rares format we played sometimes and in my oppinion it was loads of fun and most importantly it creates completely different decks. I was wondering whether someone would be interested to play such a format on GCCG? Both, movie and standard. I guess, we could use the regular x-list even though the absence of rares might make some choices there unnecessary... I hope someone will be interested in this and we can get some games in.

Sure we like that! We have a Poorman's LotR format in which some of us have posted decks. It is challenging and especially fun to do allthough it can give a man headache to come up with decks ;-)

a headache? Coming up with and building new decks is among the most enjoyable aspects of this game for me :) Do you play on GCCG Gil?

I love building decks, I always look for new challenges and new ways of using certain cards. But since I am a man, limited in my time, due to all kinds of obligations, it can give you a headache ;). Sometimes I lie in my bed, thinking about decks and possibilities.

I do play on GCCG, I'm Heije.....

wtk, apparently the Poorman's format is expanded without rares and R+ (are promos that arent rare reprints allowed?) so I guess, we should try it like that, without dividing into blocks. It does make sense too, since a lot of cards are removed from the card pool, adding more expansions is not such a problem

But there's one little problem about that:
See, there are commons or Uncommons like Elven Armaments from sets Hunters, RoS and T&D which are really strong, but they are also pretty difficult to get, so I don't think Poorman's with all these makes much sense...

Well it does, I have seen and played very strong Poorman's decks with cards from all sets.

Witchkingx5 I don't get your point... There were allways cards that were difficult to get... Besides we're playing GCCG where you have all the cards you want/need...

Well, I was talking about real life, not GCCG. See, It's nearly impossible to get Commons or Uncommons from T&D.
I'll give an example:
THE WEIGHT OF A LEGACY is a really bad and stupid Card, but it's Rare and it's from FotR, so it's very easy to get it.
But when you compare it with Elven Armaments, Elven Armaments is much stronger but also harder to get.
See the point? Rare does not have to mean powerful and expensive (which mostly is), but it's just to give you an idea of clarification from Decipher. So, especially when you're talking about T&D Cards, "Poorman's" is getting a little strange.

I have now played two games on GCCG for FoTR block, poorman's. I think sticking to blocks is better because otherwise cards from Hunters on will be most widely used.

Yepp, that's another point I didn't mention, but it's another point.
