Just a few questions
« on: February 23, 2010, 05:17:07 PM »
I've been looking through some decks here, and I wondered why do people seem to think that Narsil, BotF is better than Narsil, FbT. I mean, most decks that run Isildur tend to protect his vitality with this Narsil, which is good, but I think the new version is actualy very good, and by giving him +3 strength, damage +1, that ensures that he actually wins some skirmishes and survives, rather than having to exert the other companions. Not to mention that by winning he can discard some possesions.

Also, for my other question: I've been a fan of Éomer recently, and as I looked through the movie character's versions, I noticed that almost all of them had at least one very splashable version you could put almost in every deck, exept Éomer. I really like Éomer, but he seems to depend too much on mounts and his family members, and since I don't have neither the cards nor the money to make a full competitive Rohan deck, I've been looking for a splashable or semi-splashable Éomer you could use. But I haven't been able to find one. Any opinions?

hmm, the only semi-splashable eomer i can think of that would be useful would be Eored Captain or Third Marshal of Riddermark in a wounding deck

Ofcourse, the new Narsil is great, but. With a Isildur RB I would go for the old one. Generally you don't want your RB to skirmish, not even with the ability to nuke possessions. They can use tricks etc. With the old Narsil you can absorbe an extra archery/threat wound and if you have to assign, you are likely to be stronger due to other artifacts.
If you play for example Isildur Sword-bearer I would probably go with the new one, allthough sadly you have to heal before exerting him.

Eomer splash: no.

and there's one big reason why it's kinda sure that I'll never use Narsil, FbT: Money. FbT is a Rare from RoS, and even a Power Rare, so it's nearly impossible to get one. If you play with real cards like me, take Blade of the Faithful, and also run Anduril (whichever version), Scroll of Isildur, some Sapling of the White Tree, SSoO, maybe SSoMA and, depending on the format, Ring of Barahir or The Shards of Narsil. You'll have  a minimum 13 Strength vitality Ring-Bearer, which is certainly good.

As for Eomer, I don't know any Splashable ones... (compared wot LotC, LoI, Greenleaf and so on.)

Yeah, I know the old Narsil is better than the new one, and I know that protecting Isildur's vitality is the most important thing, but that extra wound that you prevent would mean two other wounds for your other comps, and ONLY if you can exert them. While if you're use Sapling of the White Tree, you can just discard it to prevent the wound, without having to lower Isildur's strength. Also, if you're using BotF, after you have exerted all your other companions and you have to assign, Isilsur won't be strong enough.

WitchKing, of how much money are you talking of? Cause I just got a FbT at about $12, and the shipping to S.A. was like $1,25 or something like that.

Well, first, I'm still at school, si my financial possibilities are very limited. (50$ per month  :'( :'( )

And btw, you get a Narsil, BotF for about 2 or 3$, depending on the seller, and many players have it. I use it in my Anarion Power Deck (which still needs a Ranger's Longbow  :'( :'( ) and it works really good with Isildur as Ring-Bearer.
