The Hunt for Gollum - DC Set (DISCONTINUED)
« on: April 13, 2010, 02:00:07 PM »
www.thehuntforgollum.com

I have recently discovered this short movie and since I saw it, I've been thinking:
"Wow! What a great occasion to make a new DC Set!"

Since this movie is based on events from the first movie, this set would be a 122 cards expansions that could be included in FOTR Block. So there are no threats, no site control, no toil, no initiative, companion resistance, etc. mechanics in there. There will be 40 rare cards, 40 uncommon cards, 40 common cards and 2 promotional cards.

Here is what the set would focus on:
- Adding the [Gollum] culture to FOTR Block.
- Search cards and Stealth cards.
- Making another [Gondor] companion available for FOTR Block players (Arithir).
- Making another [Elven] companion available for FOTR Block players (the elf in the movie).
- A lot of [Sauron] Orcs.
- Some [Wraith] stuff.
- Trying to have at least 2 cards for each existant culture in the FOTR block even if they aren't very present in the movie (ex. [Dwarven] and [Isengard]).

I've also been thinking that we could use card pictures from the Hunt for Gollum movie to make these cards playable and test them on GCCG.

What do you guys think about that? I think that some of you could be involved as well in this DC set. However, I'd still like to lead the project.

Are we allowed to make visual cards? If so, I'm so excited about this. The thing I love about the cards are especially how they look (when I'm bored I like to take cool screencaps that could work on the tcg), and the fact that we cannot make visual cards is the only reason I don't look much into DC's.

Here is a very quick example of what we could do...

[2]Arithir, Ranger of Arnor [Gondor]

Companion • Man
Strength: 6
Vitality: 3
Ranger.
While the fellowship is at a forest, Arithir is strength +1.

Arathir was such a lame character. I was largely unimpressed by the movies, outside of how they looked on their budget. What about this card:

[2] Commitment to Celibacy [Gollum]
To play, make a fan film greater than 5 minutes that is not a parody.

Maybe it should be unique?
-wtk
Well ket, I know you didn't like their movie... but I don't see what is the problem about making a fan film that has been seen by more than 3.5 million people, even if it last more than 5 minutes. Anyway, I don't to start a debate here.

No disrespect, but that picture reminded me of something else:

[2]Arithir, Caveman [Gondor]

Companion • Man
Strength: 6
Vitality: 3
Ranger.
Skirmish: Exert Arithir to switch to Geico.
SO EASY A CAVEMAN CAN DO IT.

Yeah, I have to agree that he looks pretty lame with such a beard. However, when you think about it, it is realistic for a ranger to look like that.

I think that I'll focus on making the DCs before finding pictures. Hehehe.

Here is very approximative list of what I will try to do. I'm affraid it may unbalance the number of cards per culture. However, [Isengard] is already good enough in FOTR Block and I'll try to make at least 1 strong rare card for each other culture that doesn't get many new cards.

Promo Cards for Starters (2)
- Smeagol
- Aragorn

Free Peoples (57)
[Dwarven] 2
[Elven] 12
[Gandalf] 12
[Gollum] 5
[Gondor] 23
[Shire] 3

Shadow (57)
[Isengard] 2
[Gollum] 30
[Moria] 3
[Wraith] 9
[Sauron] 13

Sites (6)

That look amazing! Though I would widen a bit the card image, so that you can actualy see what's happening in events especially. I think I'll take a look at the film again just to take some cool screencaps xD
No offense, but that pic of Arithir looks like an ID card image, not tcg.

I totally agree with you. I just paused the movie and printscreened the image on Paint. I'm sure that it would be possible to come up with better pictures. I have very little skills when it comes to image software so I guess that if one day we finally decide to add pictures to these DCs, I wouldn't be the most qualified person to do it.

Okay, I've watched the movie again, trying to find some potential cards for this set... The list was made very quickly. Here are some card titles I've found. I'll like to have your help for potential card names... So if you guys wanna watch the movie and have some inspiration, feel free to suggest some 'serious' card names (Commitment to Celibacy won't be in this set sorry ket ).

[Dwarven]
No card title yet, but when Aragorn search Gollum in some large Cavern, I'm pretty sure we could make at least a DC using this moment as a picture.

[Elven]
•Arwen, subtitle needed
•Need-a-name, Mirkwood Elf
You Have my Heart
We Have Your Creature
Elven Lights
Elanor
Asëa aranion

[Gandalf]
Gandalf, subtitle needed
Wizard Hat
I must go at once
Interrogation
Our secret is no longer safe
If you can't find him, no one can

[Gollum] FP
•Sméagol, Small in size (P)
We wouldn't hurt a fly
We promises we'll be very nice
Smeagol's Song [this one may need a better name]
Fishes

[Gondor]
•Aragorn, need a subtitle (P)
Strength of the forefathers
•Arithir, Ranger of Arnor
•Arithir, Son of Argonathen
•Sword of Arnor
•Arithir's Pipe
Campfire Stories (may need a better name)
Burning Torch
Double-Kill
Snare-Trap
Sack (probably need a better name)
•The Villager (need a better name)
I will find him
I track a creature

[Shire]
Tracks like those of a Hobbit
Baggins has it
Lily Mugwort, Hobbit of Bree

[Isengard]
Bree Ruffian
Bree Thugs
Saruman's Fog

[Gollum] Shadow
•Gollum, Spy of Sorts
•Gollum, Pitiful Creature
•Gollum, Wretched Creature
Murderously Protective of it
Snatching
We'll put out it's eyes!
We'll wring it's filthy neckses!
It's coming!
Let us out!
Little cheat!
We should have squeezed it!

[Moria]
Returned to Moria (They actually do not talk about Moria in the whole movie, however, in trailer #1 they say that the orcs returned to moria and show some orcs who are running, so there may be potential for 2 or 3 [Moria] minions.)

[Wraith]
Ulaire ..., Rider in Black
Ulaire ..., Rider in Black (maybe that there could be another subtitle)

[Sauron]
Goblok, Orc Chief
Goblok's Warclub
Orc Raider
Orc Raiding Party
Dabgash
Disgruntled Orc
Poisonous Dart
Last Roar
Bring him to me

Site
Rivendell's Alley
The Misty Mountains
Eregion Forest

I think you need more [Elven] cards relative to the story. Like, "We Have Your Creature," "Elven Lights," and the such.

What about, "Aragorn, Son of Arathorn?"
-wtk
Thanx. We Have Your Creature and Elven Lights are added to the list. This is a nice subtitle for Aragorn. I'm just curious, did they mention that he is the son of Arathorn at some point in the movie?

We'll ring it's filthy neckses!

Site
Bree Street
Rivendell's Alley
The Misty Mountains
Minor nitpicks: "wring its neck" is spelled with a "w" and there's already a site called Bree Streets.
