What the heck IS that thing?
« on: July 30, 2008, 10:50:27 AM »
You tell me. (WARNING: Image is mildly graphic.)

I wouldn't have noticed this at all except it showed up on the news at lunchtime today. Probably fake, but makes you lean in close and study a bit, doesn't it?
Best regards,
Dáin

Finally, a ROUS.
There are only 10 kinds of people in the world.  Those who know binary and those who don't.

Rodents of unusual size? I don't believe they exist. ;)

Wait...

...that looks exactly like a mutilated and/or deformed naked mole-rat.

Sigh.

About 95% certain that's just a somewhat deformed version of some random perfectly normal species of animal.

I think all it is, is either a small hawk or seagul that fell into the sea from a fight with another bird or animal. and it just lost all it's feathers.

But probably not idk. :)

But it has teeth...
Also, the arms/wings are too short for a bird. Legs are obviously not bird, and the tail isn't right, either.

Ya know, come to think of it....

I remember reading something about a similar creature recorded I think sometime in the early 1800s somewhere in the NE US, or SE Canada. IIRC, there was some sorta creature which was sighted by a sea captain, and mentioned in the ship's log. It wasn't ever really considered noteable, other than that the critter was following them, and seemed to enjoy playing near the boat. Anyway, whatever it was hasn't been seen since, and hadn't been identified up to that point. Generally dismissed as some sorta normal animal that was poorly described, or else a generic "sailor story." Noteably, it was missing the common tone of a sailor story-- that is, it just treated the sighting like a perfectly normal event; nothign to write home about, whereas most stories would be some sorta tall tale of gerandiose proportions. This was just some random little incident recorded.

Anyway, point being that... um...

...I forgot the point. Yeah. There could be some sorta rare species that has been sighted before. Rarely, granted.

Now, when Champ washes up, THEN we'll have something to post about! :P

Obvious fake. I think the face is a mask thing that got grafted onto a dog body or some such thing.

Yeah, looking at it again, CG's probably right.

Looking closely, the shadow cast by the head doesn't quite seem right. See the little knob on the shadow? There's nothing on the head that matches that little knob. Looks like someone's photoshopped a new face onto this little blighter.

EDIT: Yes, I know this is the third mutually exclusive opinion I've given on the subject. I'll be honest. I'm not putting much thought into this one.

With the advent of photoshop, nothing can be trusted any more...but you get really cool stuff, such as CG's custom avatars...of which he still needs to work on...

Anyways, that's a freaky picture.  Should be rated PG-13, for graphic and scary.

The thing that has me is, why would they do a news report on it if it wasn't real?
Maybe their just disparate for some kind of story lol!

See, Dain has this tendency to find tabloid articles online... what with the ghost he found, and now this wierd critter.

Which brings up the question... Dain, where in heck do you check for your news, anyway? The grocery checkout aisle? :P

Actually, I saw both this and the ghost linked from Fox News. (Yes, really.) They get a little wacky sometimes, which is one reason I prefer them over other news outlets. :clown: Mixes on-topic news (which is usually pretty depressing these days) with less serious stuff.

Dáin

Yea, honestly, if it was from fox news, You would think that they would stick to non-fiction stories, wouldn't you? I mean, no matter how well they draw this thing up, if it is a faulty story you can usually tell.
Sure they make up a lot of things in the news because they don't have enough evidence to make it sound real, but most of the time they can find a good story without making up one.
