Yeah, I haven't touched the game in a couple years. I have a bunch of powerful standard stuff that nobody wants to play against because its all movie block with anyone I've talked to. That, and I get paid monthly, my first check doesn't come in until August and I want to ask this girl out.

That's what my collection's paying for. XD Priorities.

She'll probably say "no," then you can keep your cards, right?

You should ask her out. Your in school, right? She'll understand that you don't have money.

I think I would never sell my collection, even if some crazy dude would offer me 10.000 usd. That would be just over my beak even point I think, but the effort I put in it is priceless. Hours and hours spend on collecting, completing my sets, it was my own quest of middle earth. So I would regret it beyond believe.

Maybe one day I'll offer you 20k for your complete collection!

I just packed up my movie block collection, because I am moving soon. However, it may be some time before these cards see the light of day again, because I am starting at a new job and I will most likely not play them for a long while.

I would never consider selling them though. I would never get the money back again and it is, simply put, good to know that they are there. It would be too much trouble building such a collection again.

If you REALLY need money quickly and you have no other means, then it is OK to sell cards. Otherwise, stop smoking, drink less, go on a diet, or something along those lines. You would be amazed how much you can save by cutting down on your everyday-spending.

If I don't use something for three months, I get rid of it. There are a few exceptions (seasonal clothing, for instance), but what is the point of having that movie if you never watch it anyways? Blockbuster is right down the street and I'm sure you can stream it on the internet.

I've sold (or thrown out) my fair share of hobbies because I look at these things for what they are--hobbies, not investments. Will someone, somewhere, give me a king's ransom for my collection? Maybe, but I don't care to wait, so I'll sell them for pennies on the dollar and appreciate the collection for what it was. A fun hobby.

I'm keeping my decks anyways.

There are some things that have more meaning than simply being "possessions". My LOTR collection is one of these.

We've dedicated a whole room of our house to my various collections. We call it "the library." I've never been an investor, but I'm certainly a collector... I'm a keeper... I'm a midnight toker (wait, that doesn't rhyme... #-o)

Actually, I would go out on a limb and say that any possession is just a possession. Unless you cannot live without it (I mean really can't live without it...like a feeding tube or an oxygen tank) then it is just a possession.

If your collection got burnt up in a house fire, would you be pissed? Maybe. But I'm pretty sure you'd live.

Actually, possessionally I'm more of a minimalist... but yeah, if something no longer has a meaning to me I will get rid of it.

The word "possession" carries different connotations for different people.

A possession is just something you 'possess' or own. How could something concrete like that carry multiple connotations?

She said yes.

Well, for me, its that priorities changed. Yeah, the LotR cards have some sentimental value, and if I ever find someone to play, I'm keeping my expanded Dwarf/Sauron discard deck, which was my favorite anyways, but I never was a collector, I always got the cards to play them, and since I haven't touched them in like 2 years...

I don't think that I'll regret selling that cards that I've sold.

After all, I'm keeping my 30+ decks that I have. I'm just selling the extras, plus if I ever get the urge to build anymore decks then I'll just buy whatever singles I need again.
All of my extra Lord of the Rings TCG, MECCG, SWCCG, and WoW TCG singles are available for sale on my website: http://www.ccg-singles.com

What do you mean by 'possess' or 'own'?
Each individual associates their own meanings to each and every word in their vocabulary.
The meaning of some words is shared to a greater or lesser degree by 'the majority', admittedly, but I believe it is a fundamental truth that no concept is set in stone, or 'concrete' as you would have it. Concepts are ideas and idea are thought. Thought is fluid and subjective, and open to interpretation and reinterpretation.
Anything can carry mulitple connotations.
