Gondorian Knights and Southron initiative
« on: September 01, 2008, 07:23:48 PM »
Well, here is my first attempt at a constructed deck in 5 years  ;D

Frodo And Ring
*The One Ring, Answer To All Riddles (4R1
*Isildur, Bearer of Heirlooms (RB)(9R+33

Sites
(1R)Steps of Edoras (7U334
(2R)West Road (7U337
(3R)Base of Mindolluin (10U117
(4R)Anduin Banks (7U341
(5R)Pelennor Flat (7U345
(6R)Minas Tirith Sixth Circle (7U351
(7R)Osgiliath Channel (8U120
(8R)Cross Roads (7U356
(9R)Dagorlad (7U360

Fellowship (33)

1x *Alcarin, Warrior of Lamedon (5R31)  (starting)
1x *Turgon, Man of Belfalas (5U42)  (starting)

1x *Narsil, Blade of the Faithful (9R+34
1x Sapling of the White Tree (9R35
1x *Aragorn, Captain of Gondor (7C81
1x *Faramir, Defender of Osgiliath (8C34
1x *Garrison of Gondor (8U36)
1x *Imrahil, Prince of Dol Amroth (8R37
1x *Ingold (7C106
1x *Citadel of the Stars (5C32
1x *Garrison of Osgiliath (6C52
1x *Hardy Garrison (10U33
1x *Stone Tower (5R39
1x *Strong and Old (7R122
3x Fifth Level (10U32
1x First Level (7C92
3x Fourth Level (8C35
2x Sixth Level (8U44
1x Catapult (8R32
3x Gondor Bow (7U94
3x Gondorian Sword (7U98
3x Knight's Mount (8C40

Shadow (33)
3x Harsh Tongues (7C150
3x Rout (7R158
2x New Strength Came Now (7C154
1x *Suzerain of Harad (7R170
4x Desert Runner (7C133
4x Desert Scout (7U134
4x Desert Sneak (7C135
4x Mumak Chieftain (10R45
4x Southron Chieftain (7R163
2x Mumak (5C73
2x Mumakil (8R64)

The strategy is relatively straightforward. Take your time setting up your knights, eventually, with Isildur and all possessions they should have very respectable base strength. Pull vital fortifications back into play with Sixth Level and ever-healing Alcarin.
Shadow is used to slow up the opponent with Rout, so that your knights can double-move when needed; Harsh Tongues and Southron Chieftain ensure you have initiative. Mumak Chieftain on a Mumakil is the brute assaulting force, and if Mumaks come out early, place them on smaller wound-when-assigned-and-you-have-initiative minions :)

The first impression after playing just 2 games (thanks Pepin and Clockwork!) - the deck cycles really really well, but could miss a punch here and there. For the fellowship, I am thinking of adding Might of Numenor to help with double move against direct wounding decks, and maybe Gondor Bowmen. Shadow wouldn't hurt having some condition/possession removal (Noble Leaders arrgh!) - so I am thinking Discovered?

Thanks for the feedback! :)

Glad you changed your ring for ATAR:up:

For the Fellowship side i would say for you to drop some extra companions and get more copies of the essential ones!  Cut out Turgon (start with ingold instead) and Faramir  and put more copies of Aragorn and/or GoG. Also drop the First Level and add one more Sapling of The White Tree. Since  [Gondor] don´t have much condition removal you can consider to put some Athelas to get rid of annoying conditions on your companions and/or get a healing when needed.  Your Isildur will die badly to corruptions decks, maybe Scroll of Isildur can help you with that.

For the Shadows maybe cut Suzerain and one copy of Chiefitain for two Desert Lords. this way when you get the initiative you can aim exertions in the companions to improve your killing capacity with the assing-initiative-wound characters... Or you can consider Souhtron Veterans for some crowd control, cause big fellowships (like ents) can cause some trouble to your shadows, and they are ambush... But if you think Suzerain is working good i guess you can keep it.

Ah...for condition removal with your southrons you can use Discovered or Quelled. I personally prefer the first one but i don´t know if you have room for it in your deck...
