BS Elves \ Moria Navy (2 versions of the shadow)
« on: November 10, 2011, 02:45:17 PM »
Im curious as to which version people here think is better. I have tried the first version alot on GccG and it is very very successful. I started thinking though what if people finally decide to start running PAtHS (which is very odd I haven't seen that in movie format in awhile if ever). Anyway let me hear your opinions and/or advice.

Fellowship (35):

Bearer and Ring:
*The One Ring, Answer To All Riddles (4R1)
*Galadriel, Bearer of Wisdom (RB)(9R+14)

Fellowship (35)
1x *Legolas, Archer of Mirkwood (5P121) (start)
1x *Aegnor, Elven Escort (10U4) (start)
2x *Arwen, Queen of Elves and Men (10R6)
2x *Cirdan, The Shipwright (10R8)

2x *Elrond, Herald To Gil-Galad (3R13)
1x *Orophin, Lorien Bowman (1U56)
1x *Rumil, Elven Protector (1U57)

1x *Bow of the Galadhrim (1R33)
1x *Long-Knives Of Legolas (3R21)
3x Elven Bow (4U62)
1x *Aiglos (9R+12)
1x *Nenya, Ring of Adamant (9R20)
1x *Vilya (3R27)

1x *Shadow Between (7R28)
2x *The Splendor of Their Banners (1R62)
1x *The Tale of Gil-galad (1R66)

3x Alliance Reforged (4R58)
4x Feathered (4U66)
2x Stand Against Darkness (1U63)
4x Valor (4C87)

Idea is have some archery 4 with companions all out with bows on and more if you get splendor on Galadriel with a bow. Assign minions to Legolas use Aegnor to help him win then he can heal another companion and wound a minion. The Allies provide extra archers for Aegnor to spot and can help kill off troublesome orcs and uruks. A Shadow Between, Legolas, and Elrond provide the healing. Elrond can also send conditions back to the opponents hand if they are giving you any trouble. The shadow helps get those events in your discard pile if you aren't playing them to help Cirdan become the NPE piece of crap that he is .

Shadow (version 1) (35):

2x Corsair Boatswain (10C37)
3x Corsair Lookout (8U56)
4x Foul Tentacle (2C58)
4x Corsair Plunderer (8R58)
2x Corsair Ruffian (10U39)
3x Goblin Backstabber (1C174)
1x Huge Tentacle (2R66)
4x Goblin Runner (1U178)
3x Moria Scout (1C191)

3x *Under Foot (10C52)
2x Evil-Smelling Fens (5U22)
2x They Are Coming (1C196)

3x Corsair War Galley (8U59)

Idea is to get out a Corsair War Galley ASAP. Boatswain can provide one if one isn't drawn. Once you get your tokens, They Are Coming and a Under Foot you should be set. Play what you can from hand then toss the rest to get minions from your discard pile add extra twilight with runners. Once your hand is small use Under Fott to reconcile for more minions. Hopefully you will get extra copies of Under Foot and swarm the opponent. I went with a tentacle splash to help not only get minions from your hand and discard pile into play, but play a tentacle (with Evil-Smelling Fens in play of course) and you can play the rest from your draw deck. That helps you draw other minions when you reconcile with Under Foot.

Shadow (version 2):

2x Corsair Boatswain (10C37)
3x Corsair Lookout (8U56)
2x Corsair Marauder (8R57)
4x Corsair Plunderer (8R58)
2x Corsair Ruffian (10U39)
3x Goblin Backstabber (1C174)
4x Goblin Man (2C42)
4x Goblin Runner (1U178)
2x Moria Scout (1C191)

3x *Under Foot (10C52)
1x Saruman's Snows (1C138)
2x They Are Coming (1C196)

3x Corsair War Galley (8U59)

Basically same idea as version 1, but this provides some protection against skirmish specials and events during your swarm. Play as above but this time instead of the tentacle twist you can drop a goblin Man to peek at your opponents hand to determine if it is safe to swarm. If the opponent has a PAtHS or something else in play or in hand that can ruin the swarm during the skirmish drop Saruman's Snows on the table and annoy. I also added a Corsair Marauder x2 to this deck since there is no real reason to run more than 1 Saruman's Snows. If they swarm is defeated chances are you won't get another chance (especially if you wasted all your Under Foot). If the swarm if foiled you should have plenty of [Elven] events in your discard pile and hopefully set up enough on the Free Peoples side to attempt a run for it and keep the game interesting .

Well, that's it, let me know what you think of the 2 versions of the shadow as well as the fellowship. Any advice is welcomed so fire away.

If a Balrog falls from a bridge and noone is around, does it make a sound?

I played this shadow side against you once and I have to say, it really took me by surprise. I didn't expect it at all. It'd be even cooler if you had a more unpredictable fellowship.

I prefer the one with [Isengard] more, tentacles seem too combo-intensive to me. But I feel there can be more useful [Isengard] minions than Goblin Man - Grima (both CC and Wormtongue, depending on what you expect in your meta), Saruman, Black Traitor (against The Tale of Great Ring). And a copy of Saruman's Power will never hurt, Saruman's Snows is good against events but can be discarded by Company of Archers etc., and at least 50% of the time the card hurting your swarm will be a condition.

Well, southron corruption needs vitality, and that is gone, I expect only 2 burdens max, maybe more now and then. Sauron corruption needs conditions, which can be tricky with not that much conditiondiscard, but I don't think this deck doesn't have a chance vs those decks...
