Starting out in Gemp
« on: April 12, 2012, 12:16:38 PM »
I've finally registered for Gemp and am not sure where to start.  Should I worry about buying cards yet, or are most games played using all cards?  If I need to buy the cards to play, what formats are most popular in constructed?  I don't want to blow all the gold on a format no one plays.  Also, is there a particular starter deck that forms a good basis for deckbuilding?

Only about half of the constructed tournaments and leagues will be using "My cards" collection. So it's really up to your preference - if you like playing decks that have no limit on card availability (decks from net for example) - don't bother with collecting cards. If you prefer a challenge and maybe a bit of grinding - then by all means do the "My cards" (Collector's) tournaments/leagues.

The plan is there is always going to be one limited, one constructed and one Collector's constructed league running at a time, so you'll always find something to do. As for the casual games - they will always play with "All cards" collection (any card available).
New/old way to play Lord of the Rings online.
Give Gemp-LotR a try.
All sets are finished

Nice; that's mainly what I'm looking for anyway.  Thanks

I didn't really see a better spot for this, but I just started using Gemp and was wondering if there is another way to build decks besides the built-in deck builder in Gemp (like Zorbec's for GCCG). I'm having a difficult time using the Gemp deck builder, so any advice would be appreciated.

What's difficult about it? You can search by set, block, culture, card type, stats and name. Very easy to find whatever cards you need for your deck.
All cards do what they say, no more, no less.

It's a royal pain in the #$&*@! to use.  I'm assuming you've never used Zorbec's deckbuilder or an equivalent.

Yes, I find it much more difficult to use than Zorbec's. Additionally, I have run into a problem where if I only partially build a deck and attempt to reopen it, all of the cards are deleted and I have to start over.

Did you save the deck?

Yes. When I click on the deck list, it shows all of the cards I have added. However when I try to open it, it shows no cards in the deck.

That bug happens every now and then. Just be patient and deal with it.
