Question about my Gandalf Madness & Which Sets Are Good
« on: December 10, 2015, 01:41:43 PM »
I posted here awhile back and got some great advice, then lost the link to the forum and just recently found it again.

My friends and I love the game and are still pretty novice at it. I love the Gandalf culture and just want to build a couple of decks for him, and I love opening packs! Given that - what are the best sets to buy if I want to get cards for Gandalf? Are there any sets that are considered duds or studs in particular, as far as having great cards in them? I plan to buy some booster boxes soon :)

Thanks for any advice!

I presume that you are playing a casual format if you are playing with friends and looking across all sets. I would start by confirming with your friends if there are certain cards or sets included or excluded.

The best cards in Movie Block for the [Gandalf] culture are largely found in the Fellowship of the Ring set. A Wizard Is Never Late, Servant of the Secret Fire, and Glamdring are all "power" cards, although the events work better with more than one copy.

The Battle of Helms Deep is difficult to find sealed, but introduces the hearty Ents who are also [Gandalf] culture. The Ents of Fangorn, the following expansion, may be a better fit and also has the double-edged sword of Gandalf, Mithrandir (who is incredibly fun in casual) and Glamdring, Lightning Brand.

Of course, you can take a look at all of the sets, as the Wiki has every printed card available and posted directly above. You will also find a great collection of deck designs in these forums.

Welcome back, and cheers,
-wtk

You basically have two options here. Fellowship of the ring and Ents of Fangorn. If you're looking for events for Gandalf and  [Gandalf] allies than Fellowship of the ring is the way to go. But Ents of Fangorn has a bunch of nice ents if you're looking for companions. Just depends on what you're looking for. You can look at the wiki for those 2 sets to see which you like better. Good luck with the pack openings.
I think something should go here.

Don't forget about Gandalf, Leader of Men and Saved From the Fire. Works with many cultures and you got Gandalf right from the start.
