Realm of Dwarrowdelf MOVIE
« on: July 05, 2016, 09:07:11 AM »
This is a variant of what was originally a Fellowship deck, that I've discovered is very viable in a number of popular formats. The original Fellowship version can be viewed here:

http://lotrtcgwiki.com/forums/index.php/topic,9323.0.html

I've discovered that this Movie version is ridiculous strong!

4x Saruman's Power
3x Red Wrath
3x Whirling Strike
4x Evil-smelling Fens

Total Cards: 166!

Bid 2 or 3 to go first, usually that's enough. Top priority is to pull Realm of Dwarrowdelf with the site, secondary priority is Shoulder to Shoulder. Smeagol is mostly just a meat shield to help cycle until you get more of your guys out. The nice thing about this Movie version, is that this deck's biggest weakness (Saruman's Power) is no longer much of a threat, thanks to Gimli. Site 1 also makes it a lot easier to get Realm of Dwarrowdelf out asap. In addition to all the features you get with the other versions of this deck, of special note this time around is the synergy that exists between Gandalf, Manager of Wizards and Galadriel, Keeper of Nenya. Those two can help you cycle out cards you don't want in your hand, but in a pinch, you can have Legolas fight and make a guy anywhere from -6 to -12!

The Shadow side of this deck is basically a slightly larger version of the Initiative Southrons Shadow from my Echo of Luthien deck, found here:

http://lotrtcgwiki.com/forums/index.php/topic,9060.0.html

It's a proven strategy that works well with putting a bunch of your cards in the discard pile, just like Echo of Luthien does.

The other nice thing about this deck, is it works GREAT with the multi-series Movie League! There's a version of this deck that is legal for each series of that league (1-7, 1-8, 1-9, all sets), and they're all nicely strong.

It's a nice deck, maybe not strong on paper but fellowship works great with Realm of Dwarrowdelf and Beneath the Mountains combo. Not to mention Shoulder to Shoulder healing.

Shadow is great to, a bit unpredictable with all those corsairs and southrons with Grima (Saruman's Power) and Golum (Evil-smelling Fens) splash.

And i think that with 4x Úlairë Enquëa, Lieutenant of Morgul you dont need 3x Morgul Squealer, mainly because you dont have any wraith minios in your deck. Maybe Far Harad Mercenaries or Southron Commander would fit better if you want additional crowd control.

Last time we played i didnt see 4x Power According to His Stature in deck, is that new? :)

More predictable than you might think; I've got a lot of experience playing with this shadow, and once you get the hang of it, it is super easy to set up and works against a wide variety of strategies.

And i think that with 4x Úlairë Enquëa, Lieutenant of Morgul you dont need 3x Morgul Squealer, mainly because you dont have any wraith minios in your deck.

The power of the shadow is its ability to swarm, so it is extra bonus important to keep your opponent's fellowship down to about five. with that much Shotgun floating around, that shouldn't be hard to do.

Maybe Far Harad Mercenaries or Southron Commander would fit better if you want additional crowd control.

Both of those seem weaker to me than just more Shotgun.

Last time we played i didnt see 4x Power According to His Stature in deck, is that new? :)

Nah, that's pretty standard. I think that's in every version of the deck. It's a big deck though, so it probably just never came up.

No updates to this one! Still very strong, though maybe not quite as strong as the Echo of Luthien deck. I can't think of any way to make it better... though I feel like there's got to be one!

I've fairly recently been experimenting with a significantly different version of this deck using Bilbo instead of Gandalf for condition removal. The idea is that 4+ cultures in Towers Standard and later formats can be especially vulnerable to things like Grima, Chief Counselor and other anti-multi-culture minions. For that reason, I replaced Gandalf with Bilbo in the Towers Standard version of this deck, and I decided to try the same thing with Move. The results are interesting: Both the Gandalf and Bilbo versions continue to be very strong (yet decidedly different) strategies. Not sure which I like more! So, here's the Bilbo one:

Realm of Dwarrowdelf MOVIE Mk 4 (Bilbo)

Starting cards:
Ring-bearer: Frodo, Old Bilbo's Heir
Ring: The One Ring, The Binding Ring
1x Legolas, Greenleaf
1x Gimli, Feared Axeman
1x Smeagol, Poor Creature

Adventure deck:
Dunharrow Plateau
King's Tent
Hall of the Kings
City of the Dead
City Gates
Minas Tirith First Circle
Osgiliath Channel
Morgulduin
Dagorlad

Free Peoples Draw Deck:
4x Durin III, Dwarven Lord
4x Gloin, Friend to Thorin
4x Sam, Son of Hamfast
4x Thrarin, Dwarven Smith
4x Elrond, Herald to Gil-galad
4x Bilbo, Well-spoken Gentlehobbit
2x Axe of Erebor
2x Dwarven Axe
4x Dwarven Bracers
4x Hand Axe
3x Elven Sword
1x Hobbit Sword
1x Red Book of Westmarch
1x Sting, Baggins Heirloom
1x Ring of Accretion
1x Ring of Fury
1x Ring of Guile
3x Aiglos
3x Slaked Thirsts
4x Stand Against Darkness
4x The Council of Elrond
4x Power According to His Stature
4x Beneath the Mountains
2x Endurance of Dwarves
4x Ever My Heart Rises
2x Make Light of Burdens
2x Preparations
4x Realm of Dwarrowdelf
1x Hosts of the Last Alliance
4x Shoulder to Shoulder
2x The Tale of Gil-galad
1x The White Arrows of Lorien
1x Consorting With Wizards
1x O Elbereth! Gilthoniel!
1x There and Back Again

Shadow Draw Deck:
4x Gollum, Plotting Deceiver
1x Goblin Man
2x Grima, Chief Counselor
2x Grima, Wormtongue
1x Isengard Smith
3x Goblin Runner
4x Castamir of Umbar
4x Corsair Boatswain
4x Corsair Lookout
4x Corsair Marauder
4x Corsair Plunderer
4x Desert Runner
4x Desert Scout
4x Desert Sneak
4x Southron Invaders
2x Orc Insurgent
3x Morgul Squealer
4x Úlairë Enquëa, Lieutenant of Morgul
4x Black Sails of Umbar
4x Corsair War Galley
4x Ships of Great Draught
4x Captured by the Ring
4x Hobbitses Are Dead
4x Saruman's Power
3x Red Wrath
3x Whirling Strike
4x Evil-smelling Fens
3x They Are Coming

The strategy is much like the Towers Standard deck, only stronger in Movie. Smeagol is just a cycling meat shield to get you to Site 3, you should kill him off early to limit yourself to 4 cultures. After that, cultures are no worry, since you've only got 3. FP can cycle with Elven Sword once Smeagol is gone, and there's some great synergy with Bilbo, Ever My Heart Rises, and The Council of Elrond.
