SoP's Signets (correcting big D's missed opportuinity)
« on: October 29, 2008, 11:14:42 AM »
yes. I'm making DC's.
you may hold the applause

anyway I gave this a try before, but I'm going to give it another. I will correct deciphers error, instead of using the resistance mechanic I will use signets.  this will require, a new signet as I've decided I need one for the dwarves.  I also need an elven signet.
once we've decided these I will begin in shadows, rewriting all cards that deal with resistance, starting with the dwarven culture.
you can vote for a dwarf, and an elven signet.

Voted Gimli and Legolas, to maintain the initial idea introduced with Signets. However, I think you could have more than one signet per culture, no problem. And you could divide them per race, so "Hobbit signet" would mean Frodo's, Bilbo's, etc.

I voted Elrond and Dáin, who I think make the most sense storywise. Not that it matters, but I have Elrond and Thorin signets in my DC sets.
Best regards,
Dáin

right now I'm leaning towards elrond and gimli...Gimli since he's the beston I can think of to work with my ideas...but elrond I'm more meh about...I'm not gonna use thorin, as this is not about the hobbit ;)

in the end I am thinking of something like this
[1] Sworn Companion [Shire]
Event • Skirmish
Skirmish : Make a Hobbit strength +1 for each companion with the Frodo signet you can spot
"'It's just something Gandalf said..."Don't you lose him Samwise Gamgee"...and I don't mean too."'

how do you do s again? and lastly but not leastly, When I am done, I might try adding some cards and making a set of sorts...where see how it goes.

Why Elrond? Gamewise, it SHOULD be Legolas.

I agree with FM, to an extent. If you're going to do Gimli, you should probably do Legolas as well. But I personally feel that more leader-like characters should get the signets, which is why I voted Elrond (respected among all Elves) and Dáin (leader of most of the Dwarves left during the War of the Ring). Current signets all fit this mold, I think. Aragorn is the rightful leader of Gondor and eventual King of the West. Theoden is the king of Rohan. Frodo is a hero among all in Middle-earth, but especially in the Shire after he leads the scouring of it. And Gandalf is a leader of Men, Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, and others wherever he goes. Legolas and Gimli? Respected, yes, but not quite on the same level.

I think the fact that most current signets (Aragorn, Frodo, Gandalf) come from members of the Fellowship is confusing things. Again, I think other leaders like Elrond fit into Decipher's thinking a lot more than a Dwarf and Elf that happened to be in the Fellowship as well.

But that's just me. I won't protest either way. In truth, it could just be "the Elven signet" and "the Dwarven signet" and I'd be happy. :P
Best regards,
Dáin

Which is why I said to not limit signets to one per race. Not only you get to actually give a signet to those who deserve it: Elrond, Galadriel, Dain, Bilbo, heck, even Saruman (flavorwise, Ents should have either Saruman's signet, or Merry's or Pippin's), etc., you get more design space, by referring to signets by name AND/OR race.

Elrond and Dain, they seem more "leader-like".

I hear a lot about "leader-like". C'mon, guys... FRODO? Really? Huh. Signets are not about leadership, they're about "important" characters from their cultures in the movie.

I don't know, I want to have a elf/dwarf signeted aragorn...

what I might just do starting tomorrow is DC the cards, and just have elven signet or something, and replace it later.

I don't think that Legolas and Gimli signets make sense. So far the signets have been Aragorn, Gandalf, Theoden and Frodo. All legendary characters that play a major role in the story. Legolas and Gimli are both awesome and important, but they're more like warriors (maybe the best ones). You can't compare the role of Gandalf or Aragorn to the role of Gimli or Legolas. It's like an Éomer signet... I love him, he's wicked but not worthy of a signet.

I think Galadriel or Elrond signets would be cool, cause they're great characters that change the course of the story. I can't think of any other character worthy of a signet. Someone mentioned Merry and Pippin  ](*,) oh my!
