So I have been trying to gather as much information as possible about
Alive and Unspoiled. It seems like a very mild card, but the effect is complicated enough that I can't just brush it off like I would with
Lightfootedness or
The Weight of a Legacy.
From what I have found I would say that there are four different things you could try to do with this card:
1) Milling - with just one burden and no spotting requirement to trigger the effect, you can burn through an opponent's hand for twilight. This is incredibly expensive and probably not worthwhile when contrasted with other discarding effects. The opponent will likely start to run when they see what you're up to.
2) Targeting Pumps - with many burdens and the occasional trigger, you can eliminate your opponent's Free Peoples supporting cards such as pumps. This feels like the intended purpose, but uruks are not good with burdens, so it feels weak.
3) Targeting shadow cards - with a few burdens and triggers you can eliminate an opponent's shadow cards each turn. This could be combined with a Free Peoples that does the same thing using cards such as
Halls of my Home,
What are we waiting for?,
Drawing his Eye etc. This will also encourage double moving, so perhaps it could be combined with
Traitor's Voice?
4) Initiative - this card could be used to pick off a few of an opponent's cards to help gain initiative. This seems like the area with the most promise, since this ability is part of what got
The Palantir of Orthanc banned. Of course, this is way more expensive than Palantir.
The last two options seem like the ones with the most potential, but are not without their own issues. The biggest problem with this card seems to be its cost to keep triggering.
So, any ideas? Is there anything I've missed? I have a hard time imagining that this card could be successful, but maybe there's a dream combo that I'm missing that could make it work effectively, or at least decently.
