Does Bilbo, Well-Spoken Gentlehobbit discard Whisper in the Dark when the follower is in the support area?

NO it doesn't. The condition is on the follower. The follower might be in the support area but the condition isnt.

Even more, Bilbo specifies "an opponent's support area".  Even if whispers counted as being in a support area when the follower that bears it is in a support area, it would be in "your support area" not "an opponent's support area" for any follower except Saruman, SoS.

I think he asked specifically because of Saruman, SoS.
