Different Winning Conditions.
« on: December 08, 2008, 08:47:44 PM »
I was just watching a game online and a thought came to me... what if there were house rules that changed how you won or lost?

For instance, a game going by Kill Count. Both players play until one loses his Ring-bearer or until *both* survive site 9. Whoever has offed more companions wins.

Think of some more. I think mixing things up would be fun.

I once thought about banner-bearers. Capture the flag. No corruption, just beat down. Rohan culture, Gondor culture and elfen culture, each has a banner. Your deck must be mono-culture, to protect your banner. Each character can be a banner bearer, so it comes down to eliminating an entire fellowship in order to capture the flag, or just the banner-bearer overwhelmed. You can transfer the banner during the fellowship phase.....

this isn't exactly winning conditions, but it would be cool to flip the fellowship and minions, so that you have companions played every shadow phase, and the minions form your fellowship. it would be weird though.

I have sets of rules for playing it like that! I called it "Evil always wins", depicting the Shadow bringing the Ring back to Sauron after retrieving it. However, it was usually Shadow VS. Shadow (due to strength discrepancies), usually following the flavor of multiple evil characters wanting to get in good graces with the Dark Lord since he'd be taking over; but we DID try Shadow VS. Fellowship some times, and had some other rules to make it fly.

Well, he IS one tough Ring-Bearer, but then again, so was the Balrog. It's doable, with our house rules.
