UG Colossus
« on: December 11, 2008, 09:29:03 AM »
The point of the deck is to get a colossus in play.

// Deck file for Magic Workstation (http://www.magicworkstation.com)

// Lands
    7 [SHM] Island (4)
    7 [LRW] Forest (3)
    4 [DIS] Breeding Pool
    4 [DIS] Simic Growth Chamber

// Creatures
    3 [LRW] Garruk Wildspeaker
    1 [DIS] Simic Sky Swallower
    4 [CHK] Sakura-Tribe Elder
    4 [10E] Birds of Paradise
    4 [DS] Darksteel Colossus

// Spells
    4 [MR] Tooth and Nail
    4 [LRW] Fertile Ground
    4 [TSP] Ancestral Vision
    4 [FD] Fold into AEther
    4 [TSP] Search for Tomorrow
    2 [CHK] Kodama's Reach

Ramp mana, use Fertile Ground/Garruk Racket and slam through to drop tooth and nail lightning fast, or counter one of your spells with Fold into Aether and voila.

Seems kinda unstable. I'd advise Garruk (Garruk + Fertile Ground does WONDERS in ramping!), probably Kodama's Reach (or the Cloudpost/Vesuva combo, and then Silvan Scrying) and possibly Lotus Bloom. I'd probably lose Aeon Chronicler, not good enough, try to make this a "combo" deck rather than a "control" deck. Gigadrowse and storage lands may also prove integral, you can tap creatures to survive long enough, or tap their lands eot to stop them from combo-breaking you. Tapping lands during their upkeep is also a Time Walk of sorts, depending on the deck.

I saw Fertile Ground, which is why I suggested Garruk, because he's filed under "creatures" so I missed him! Duh, I know. :P But Gigadrowse is awesome in "combo-ish" decks, try it out!

What about Simic Growth Chamber? It combos quite well with Garruk.

Added 2 Kodama's Reach. It doesn't seem like it needs a four-of, since I'd only use it in favor of a cheaper grabber later in the game, when I don't have a basic in hand.

I don't like bouncelands very much because they require bouncing lands, which does not interact very well with Fertile Ground, not to mention being a one-way ticket for being Time-Walked, since you play one of those, bounce a land back (perhaps even a shockland, and btw, you're missing Yavimaya's Coast in there, and possible Flooded Grove), and then get blown up or stolen, and you've just lost huge tempo in a deck that is trying to speed up its big plays. I'd go for Simic Signets isntead, although I like Lotus Bloom better.

But...it gets untapped with Garruk the turn it hits play, and you can tap the land you're bouncing, then, after that, if it sticks, you can get 2 mana off it + Garruk for more, and possibly even Fertile Ground that.

That is assuming an optimal scenario. But what if it's your second land, or third land? You could be doing something else with one more mana, instead of being stuck with one less and praying they don't mess with the bounceland, or they'll set you back two turns.
