Suppose I have
Treebeard, Earthborn
and discard
Merry, LG
onto Treebeard, does Merry count as a spotted hobbit when I play
Quickbeam, Bregalad
in my next Fellowship phase?

You don't have a backpack. What you have there is an invisible leather TARDIS.

I'm no expert
, but I would say
NO
. I think he has to be in play to spot. Now if you used his second text to play Merry, then you could spot him.

Stacked cards aren't in play, aren't active, and can't be spotted. So no, a stacked Merry won't count for
Quickbeam, Bregalad
.
