A TCG Puzzle.
« on: January 17, 2009, 11:15:11 AM »
I saw the principle designer for Star Wars Minis administering a similar puzzle to the people at those forums and thought it'd be neat to try it here.

In this puzzle, I will post a random character card from LotR TCG, but will break it down to look like this:

1 2 3 4 77 8 3 , .. "" '' • C G MMM O R T WWW aaaaaaaaa ccc d eeeeeeeeee f gg hhhhhhh iiiiiiiiiiiii ll mmm nnnnnnn ooooooo rrrrrrrr ss tttt uu vvv y

That is one card. But I broke down every word, every number, and organized the information like such. Your task is to decode the message, fitting pieces together to reassemble the chosen card. Every aspect of the card (including collector's information and lore) has been included here. Since this is the first round, I'll give you a few hints based on what you can already see. First, there are lots of i's, which *should* tell you something about the card type. Second, there are two periods and no colons, and there are two "s and two 's which should mean something rather specific to you.

As clarification, there are two different instances of a 7 showing up on this card - there's no seventy-seven floating around. Also, a capitalized letter appears as such on the card; likewise for a lowercased letter. Remember that as you start fitting pieces together. When you're decoding the card, use this format:

Cost Title Subtitle Culture
Card Type Card Subtype
Strength
Vitality
Signet/Site Number/Resistance
Game text
Lore
Collector's information

There are no surrounding brackets for cultures or cost so as to keep this simple. No comma between title and any subtitle. No • in-between card type and card subtype.

I don't suggest trying to do this on your own. Post your speculations and bounce ideas off of any others that show up. This is a group effort!

I'll confirm guesses if they are correct. Excluding rules questions or further clarification on how this game works, I will be answering no questions.

Haha... I guess I did choose one that was too easy. Yeah, it's Gothmog. How long did that take you?

Oh, a little while, it's great way to kill time at the office (as long as the boss doesn't catch me).

This makes me think that we could write a nice little computer program for you that would let you take the spoiler text and automatically rearrange it for you. ;D

I admit that it's actually pretty fun to tear a card apart like this, so I'll pass on the quick and easy path.

I think I found a hard one:

0 1 22 33 4 55 + ... : "" • DD F GGG H M O R SSS U W aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ccccccc ddddddddddddddddd eeeeeeeeereeeeeeeereeeeeeeee ffffff gggggg hhhhhhhhh iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii kk lllllllllllllllll mmmmmmmmmmmmm nnnnnnnnnnn oooooooooooooooooooooo ppp rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ssssssssss ttttttttttttt uuuuuu vv www yyyyyy

Hmmm... on second thought this might be a little easy.

As another tip, if you don't feel like working on the entire card all by yourself, if you find something, go ahead and post what you know and remove what letters you're using from the pool and leave what's left at the bottom of your reply.

On the other hand, perhaps I could write a script to SOLVE these so that I can beat Fatty to the punch. :P
