Dwarf Deck that needs help! Need some sort of direct wounding!
« on: February 08, 2009, 07:15:19 PM »
Gimli, Bearer of Grudges
Ring of Rings

Linnar
Durin III

Thrarin x2
Grimir x2
Aragorn, DoFP x2

Dwarven Axe x4
Ring of Accretion
Ring of Retribution
Ring of Guile
Ring of Fury
Hand Axe x2
Bracers x2

Proud and Able x2
BRC
Dark Ways
Stout and Strong x2
Still Twitching x3

Awkward Moment x4

Ok, this is where I stand now.  33 cards.  I'm shooting for 35 and it is paired with Dunlanding that runs Hill Chief and Hides, so I have some drawing potential.  I really want to add some sort of maneuver wounding or direct wounding to deal with Sauron, Balrog, Cave Troll, that sort of thing.  Aragorn is not completely necessary, as he is just a way to heal, and he is as good as out of that deck if need be.  That puts it at 31 cards.

I was looking into Fortunes of Balins Folks because with the Ring of Guile you can get it when you need it.  Thus I could add 1 Fortunes and 1 more Ring to go back to 33.

Is this the best bet, because I only run 2 Stout and Strongs and you can only have one on the table at a time?  My axe is notched won't work because I'd prefer Gimli not skirmish.  I don't have Chamber of Records, but have Suspended Palaces, however I have no way to reinforce tokens on those.  Don't have Well Crafted Armor, but could get it.  It just seems that Well Crafted armor starts adding more cards and then I have room for.

Great Day, Great Hour could work with Baruk Khazad which I could obtain with the Ring of Guile.  I'm not a big fan of Slaked Thirsts, but am willing to look into it.  It just seems that slaked thirsts would be tougher to set up having to first stack it.  Then I'd have to use Baruk Khazad

Thanks for any ideas and thoughts!

Oh, other idea is to go full mountain with still twitching and try to out power everything:

Gimli, Bearer of Grudges
Ring of Rings

Linnar
Durin III

Thrarin x2
Grimir x2

Dwarven Axe x4
Ring of Accretion
Ring of Retribution
Ring of Guile
Ring of Fury
Hand Axe x2
Bracers x2

Thorin's Harp x4
Mountain Homestead x4
Proud and Able x2
BRC
Dark Ways
Still Twitching x3
Mines of Khazad-dum x2

35 cards, Durin is 16 with possessions and Artifacts.  24 with mountain Homestead, and 30 with Still Twitching.

Thanks Again!

I would probably take out some of the conditions and add plenty of skirmish events.
For direct wounding Gimli's Battle axe, vicious weapon is good at taking out small minions or those exhausted with Great day, Great Hour and has a good combo with Gimli, Counter of foes but if you want to use the Gimli rb I wouldn't recommend it. What might be wise is just to put 2x Belt of Erebor in the deck and put it on Durin III, so that if you lose the skirmish you only take 1 wound, instead of three.

Great Day, Great Hour is the best; combined with Baruk-Khazad is 2 exertions for a dead minion. Or if you want to wound in the skirmish phase, Unheard Of would be the best.

So I made a Slaked Thirsts deck, which was pretty awesome. Enqeua and the Withcking died during maneuver. Preparations is a great card for direct wounding. With enough card on it it can kill Shelob instantly. Don't run into sweeter meats though

if you keep aragorn you could throw in a Forth the Three Hunters but that would only really help if they were both hunter, maybe add run until found for gimli and change to Thorongil which would give you a strength - 3 ability and direct wounding

I was thinking of building a deck similar to this using Great Day, Great hour, Gimli's Battle axe, VW
and all the copies I got of Burak Khazad from that Battle of helm's deep booster box. ;D
