Lords of the Eldar: A new DC set by Gate Troll and Centurion
« on: February 19, 2009, 08:10:04 PM »
Here it is, ladies and gentlemen; the ambitious new DC set from me and Centurion.
Here's our plan, and a spoiler or two to get you interested:

[Ring] The One Ring - 3 (1/1/1)

[Dwarven] Dwarven - 30 (18/5/7)
[Elven] Elven -  35 (17/9/9)
[Gandalf] Gandalf - 10 (3/3/4)
[Gondor] Gondor - 30 (14/8/8)
[Rohan] Rohan - 25 (12/7/6)
[Shire] Shire - 20 (10/5/5/)
[Gollum] Smeagol - 10 (4/3/3)
Fellowship Total: 160

[Dunland] Dunland - 25 (13/7/5)
[Gollum] Gollum - 10 (4/3/3)
[Isengard] Isengard - 30 (16/8/6)
[Moria] Moria - 20 (10/6/4)
[Raider] Raider - 25 (10/8/7)
[Sauron] Sauron - 30 (11/10/9)
[Wraith] Wraith - 20 (5/10/5)
Shadow Total: 160

[X] Sites - 42 (0/40/2)

Total: 365

We don't really like the [Orc], [Men], and [Uruk] cultures as Centurion thinks that they're redundant, and I tend to agree, about the first two. So we have omitted them and used the much more original [Moria], [Dunland], [Raider], [Sauron] and [Isengard] cultures instead  Anyway, down to business. The set is 365 cards broken up into 14 cultures, The One Ring and sites. This set is going to be more in the style of the first 10 sets, using many of best movie block concepts combined with a few of the post-Mount Doom keywords as well as universal resistance.

We have two spoilers here:

GT's spoiler:
[4]Freca, Hillman Chieftain [Dunland]
Minion • Man
Strength: 8
Vitality: 1
Site: 3
Freca is strength +2 for each site you control (limit +8.)
While you control more than 4 sites Freca is Fierce
and damage +2.
The chiefs of Dunland pledged their allegiance to Saruman.

This new Freca is meant not only to shine as bright as the previous one
but also to be very flavorful. The perfect card is a balance of flavor and usefulness.

Centurion's spoiler:
[4]Glorfindel, Lord of the Eldar [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 6
Vitality: 4
Resistance: 9
Damage +1. Enduring.
To play, spot an elf. Glorfindel is twilight cost -1
for each elf or man you can spot (limit -2).
"'Hail, and well met at last!' said the elf-lord to Frodo."

The new Glorfindel is enduring, which some of you might see as a taboo keyword for elves.
I like to think of it not so much as a berserker sort of ability as a ability that shows
‘endurance.' Kinda makes more sense too.  ;)

An uncommon ring? This has got me interested... ;)

[4]Freca, Hillman Chieftain [Dunland]
Minion • Man
Strength: 8
Vitality: 1
Site: 3
Freca is strength +2 for each site you control (limit +8.)
While you control more than 4 sites Freca is Fierce
and damage +2.
The chiefs of Dunland pledged their allegiance to Saruman.
I don't think he needs damage +2, I think +1 would be enough (16 fierce damage +1 is darn powerful).

[4]Glorfindel, Lord of the Eldar [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 6
Vitality: 4
Resistance: 9
Damage +1. Enduring.
To play, spot an elf. Glorfindel is twilight cost -1
for each elf or man you can spot (limit -2).
"'Hail, and well met at last!' said the elf-lord to Frodo."
I think he should probably have his usual vitality of 3 and have something of a different cost reduction (I hate limits with a passion) like "While you can spot an Elf or Man, Glorfindel's twilight cost is -2." Interesting stuff though, I look forward to seeing more. More, more, MORE!!!!!

I'd restore glorfindel to 3 vitality, as well as 7 strength perhaps? maybe even 9, since his ability isn't as amazing.

He's enduring. That'd make him, like, about 11 strength average, alone.

[4]Freca, Hillman Chieftain [Dunland]
Minion • Man
Strength: 8
Vitality: 1
Site: 3
Freca is strength +2 for each site you control (limit +8.)
While you control more than 4 sites Freca is Fierce
and damage +2.
The chiefs of Dunland pledged their allegiance to Saruman.

Yeah, damage +1 works fine, and I'd word that second bit to "While you control 4 or more sites,".
Nitpicks:
Should read "(limit +8)."
Fierce should not be capitalized, and the condition should be separated from the reward with a comma.

[4]Glorfindel, Lord of the Eldar [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 6
Vitality: 4
Resistance: 9
Damage +1. Enduring.
To play, spot an elf. Glorfindel is twilight cost -1
for each elf or man you can spot (limit -2).
"'Hail, and well met at last!' said the elf-lord to Frodo."

The problem with this Glorfindel is that he's got nothing going for him... if he's closer to dying he gets a few more points of strength, which neither feels Elvish nor appears useful. He definitely needs 3 vitality. I suggest moving his strength to 8 and adding a skirmish ability like this:
"Skirmish: If Glorfindel is exhausted, heal him X times to make a minion skirmishing him strength -X."
Not only does that put those wounds to good use, but it's dangerous *and* certainly becomes an [Elven] ability.
Nitpicks:
The 'to play' bit should be on the same line as the keywords, and the twilight reduction clause should follow on the same line as it.
Elf and Man should be capitalized.

Fun cards. Hope that wasn't all that you guys were planning on posting.

I am going to echo the sentiments of those who have posted before me.  I do like the ideas though.  Ok, seriously, you have waited long enough to pique my interest, lets have some more cards already.
