Counter of Foes
« on: March 25, 2009, 06:15:51 PM »
Frodo, Protected by Many
The One Ring, Ring of Doom

FP (31 cards)

Legolas, Greenleaf
Gimli, Counter of Foes

Elven Guardian x3
Orophin, Silvan Elf
Rumil, Silvan Elf

Ring of Retribution
Gimli's Battleaxe, Vicious Weapon
Hand Axe
Gimli's Armor
Gimli's Helm
Long Knives of Legolas
Sword of the Fallen x3
Hobbit Sword

Endurance of Dwarves

Alliance Reforged
Farewell to Lorien x2
Lend Us Your Aid x2
Battle to the Last x4
Quick As May Be x4

Shadow (31 cards)

Uruk Regular x4
Watchman Uruk x3
Uruk Brood x2
Uruk Defender x2
Advance Uruk Patrol x2
Orthanc Champion x2
Uruk Rear Guard x2
Lieutenant of Orthanc
Saruman, Servant of the Eye x2

Broad-bladed Sword x3

Saruman's Ambition x4
Suffered Much Loss x2
Greed

Saruman's Power

Obviously the point of this deck is the slightly off-the-wall Free Peoples side with the principle being simple: get Counter of Foes as big as you can and play Battle to the Last to kill stuff. Hilarious combo with CoF is Lend Us Your Aid which makes Gimli strength +5 damage +2 and each Elf strength +3. The Shadow side is more of a placeholder than anything else but it's pretty decent and it's high number of battleground sites helps Vicious Weapon do its thing on the FP side.

So what are we thinking about this lot?

You could throw in a couple Brutality, (if it isn't x/r listed) as well as a couple Uruk Hai Scout just in case you get a bad draw with your Suffered Much Loss.

Uruk Lieutenant could also be a good card.

One Ring to rule them all.
One Ring to find them.
One Ring to bring them all,
And in the darkness, bind them.

I would say put in Ring of Retribution and Honed if you can fit it in. Endurance of Dwarves is kind of shaky because if it gets discarded your dead, but if you manage to get 2-3 on Giml he's amazing. I've made similar decks to this, normally I use Great Day, Great Hour to combo with Quick as May Be and Gimli's Battle Axe, VW.

I'd love to use Brutality, but unfortunately it works for [Uruk] not [Isengard] minions. Uruk-hai Scout is a good idea though.

I'm running 1 Ring of Retribution already, but Great Day, Great Hour is an excellent idea, even better because I have 2 lying around not doing much! But it does open the can of worms: when do you count his damage bonus? :P I'm sure I've given a ruling on this sort of thing in the past, but I can't remember what it is...

:gp: to you both.

Sorry, I was looking thru your deck, and assumed that it was mostly  [Uruk-Hai].

you definetly need the best battleground card out there: invincible uruk, no need for comments on that guy
