Well, this may seem like a silly question, but I think it's a valid one.
I am still waiting for Conor's response to set up the old CC database. While in this state of flux, I am somewhat reluctant to put much effort into customizing this particular forum since I know it is going to expire anyway. Smileys, themes, plugins, etc all take work that may not be worthwhile. Plus, should I go to the effort in posting helpful stickies (for example, a list of LotR computer programs like SdA/Zorbec's/Lackey) if it's not going to be permanent? What about other posts? (Thranduil is currently asking this about DC's) Deck designs? If restoring CC takes over a week, what should be happening in the meantime?
Now, rest assured that I have full intentions of doing
everything I can to get the old CC back. But here's my question: Would it be better to move on with these boards, starting from scratch, and then link to the original CC once it gets working?
Conor said that he was having problems with CC taking over the server's resources and bogging it down, which was the cause of his account being suspended. I have the same host as he does -- who's to say it wouldn't happen again? When I set up the forums here, I chose SMF vs. phpBB because it has a reputation (though debatable) of being more secure. Were problems in CC's outdated phpBB (in Conor's words) "possibly the result of hacker attacks"? I have other accounts via the same hosting that I can't afford to go down with lotrtcgwiki.com.
Notice that I now have, for fun, 1000+ posts and 1000+ gold. So editing those numbers is not an issue, and I would be more than willing to tally up the totals for veteran CC users. I'm just looking for some food for thought. Please leave your comments!
Whichever forum is not being used will end up being both readable and searchable.EDIT: Changed post and gold count back to normal.
